Missing American tourist found dead in Surat Thani

An American man who was last seen swimming in a reservoir in Surat Thani has been found dead.

 

The body of 30 year old Jordan William Scott was discovered at Ratchaprapa Dam in Khao Sok national park at 19.50 on Monday evening.

 

It was previously reported that Mr Scott had been on a day trip to the Ratchaprapa Dam last Friday with his girlfriend and other friends.

 

He was playing in the water normally before midday then got out and jumped in and could not be located.

 

The American Embassy has been informed.

 

Spring News reported that officials will meet with local boat and houseboat operators at the dam to ensure that safety requirements are being adhered to.

VERY stupid to jump or dive into a dam.

It is only as I am a much older chap, I know what is hidding under the water and also the dangers. I am a qualified Ex military diver and PADI Master Diver.

Poor lad, too young to die, but I hope his friends, and the readers here, learn a very valuable lesson from this article.

Safety is not a word found in the thai language, nor in the vocab of arriving tourists.

Doubt he hit something, the depth is 40-90 meters. 

Cramp or alkohol more probable causes. 

 

The water is crystal clear, when I was fishing there I could see my hook three meters down.

Best scenario is knocked out and worse is spinal cord damage and drowning. 

 

Always shallow dive in rivers or surf.

According to the initial report " Officials said the water has a depth of 48 meters." So what did he hit, a sunken communications tower? And what is an "arriving tourist"?

PADI Master Diver = 10 escorted dives with a PADI diving instructor.

back on topic,

Lots of people die swimming every year, water is dangerous, enter at the risk of your life.
