UPS Battery is SH5-12 12V 5Ah, can I replace by 12v xxxAh (maximum that I can find ?)

hello,

I need to change my UPS battery which is SH5-12V 5Ah

http://www.bb-battery.com/global/index.php?fn=product/category/ListStyle&path=80&btid=1

Can you confirm that I can replace it by a 12V 7Ah battery or more, as this one ?

https://www.lazada.co.th/products/battery-12v-7ah-vrla-agm-lead-acid-cs12-7-i123862098-s129603829.html

What is the maximum Ah that I can use ? And does it mean that the battery will last longer ?

Or is it plain stupid and I should only by the exact model as the original ? (but I didn't find it yet)

Thank you for your help.

If it physically fits, yes you should be good to go.

You will get slightly longer run-time along with (of course) longer to re-charge after a run.

Yes you can and you probably can not obtain that old 5Ah version anymore in any case - they tend to get a bit larger capacity every few years.  But this is a cheaper price and 7.8Ah and working fine for me as replaced a 6Ah battery 3 months ago.

Which UPS are you using? I assume that it's sill going strong.

An older model of below - SPEC - cheap but works good (much better than expensive units I have used in the past) and was quick/easy battery change and immediately fine again.

Thanks for the information, I decided that at the price, for my needs, and the fact that I can easily wire in a car or motorcycle battery to something like that to extend the run time and it's cheap enough that I'm not worried about how my modifications look, that it's worth buying one for at least one of my computers, and maybe with an external battery will run the farm. So it's on the way for bit under 1,700 Baht

I will be very interested to find out if the fibre goes out or keeps running once it's converter box is on a UPS.

Here in Bangkok internet (True Fiber) stays up during infrequent short outages.

We're a bit further out, but TOT fibre has remained up even during some pretty long outages (several hours). I'm assuming it will go down eventually but as yet no problem.

The only time the fibre went off with the power was when a truck removed a pole carrying both.

You need to be careful running UPS with higher capacity batteries. Cheaper UPSs will run hot, eventually too hot and at best cut out, or maybe worse. More expensive brands will be OK, an APC will run all day if it has power and sufficient cooling. I modified a basic APC model for a longer run time on one of our LAN racks. I cut it up, stuffed fans into it and a bigger battery and it now runs long enough for me to get dressed and go crank the generator. It's a bit of a kludge but it works. It's advisable to fuse the cables though. This arrangement sucks just under 20 Amps. . .

My other switches and racks are modified to run on 50 volts DC, stepped up DC to DC, much longer run times, UPS devices are horribly inefficient. What I describe above was a 'no choice' situation, had to use UPS on this rack. . .
