Work from Home?

Featured Replies

I lived in Thailand for 10 years then moved back to the USA in 2013, back to corporate America in Florida.

The company I work for has been acquired by another mega-corporation creating a 200,000 employee worldwide conglomeration.

As part of the merger our company has a mega hiring effort of engineers. Due to this increase in hiring, there is not enough office space available so all senior people have been asked and afforded the opportunity to work from home if they chose.

The only caveat being having access to the internet.

I have been doing some logistical thinking/planning about what it would be like to work in Thailand for 3 months of the year, November, December and January. (Keep away from the heat and the floods!)

Before any Work Permit basher's come running out of the woodwork, I am very familiar with all the rules and regulations concerning working in Thailand.

I see the main benefit is for my wife to be able to be with her family 3 months out of each year.

For me, not so much. Being in Thailand for 10 years I had the chance to pretty much see and do it all. Non-drinker or a monger, so I feel like it would be back to the same old, same old for me.

With the looming elections, there could be chaos as well. Who knows or can predict what will happen.

We have a house up country in Issan but that is way to boring and no internet.

I would have to look at renting a place for those 3 months if it was even possible. Our son will be attending the University of Florida next fall and only 3 hours away so he could check on the house from time to time, even though there is a security system that can monitored from anywhere. No issues will leaving the house idle.

Would probably look at getting around via taxi and if needing to go up country rent a car from Avis.

Curious if anyone has every moved back from Thailand then lost interest completely about going back? My main reason would be for my wife to be with her family.

I recall an author who blabbed about leaving thailand recently and demonising all those that stayed.

He seemed to factor it all.

Could not be, surely.

You can use your phone as a hot spot for internet, works fine.

And your point is? You seemed to have missed the entire point of the story.

No one talked about moving back or staying in Thailand long term did they?

The idea would be so my wife, as mentioned, could spend some time with her family each year. I have zero interest, however, SOME husbands do whatever they can for their families.

Save your jealousy and hatred. Life is too short and if other people's lives upset you so much, seek some help.

PS I don't think 5 years ago was recently, but maybe time flies over there these days?

Thanks Frits. That thought never occurred to me.

What area are you looking at to live...For me, I would pick Phetchabun, Khon Kaen or Wichian Buri, Phetchabun (my pick)

Wichian Buri has one of the best Farang restaurants in Thailand: https://www.facebook.com/TheLocalWichianBuri/

Rent is about 3,000 to 4,000 baht a mo. in all three areas. My internet is great out here in Phichit area.
