17 Thai prostitutes nabbed in northern Taiwan's Keelung

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Police arrested 31 people, including 17 Thai nationals, three Taiwanese women and 11 customers, after raiding a brothel in Keelung City on Wednesday night (June), reported CNA.

 

Recently, detectives from the Keelung Police Department received reports that a large group of Thai women were traveling to Keelung under the guise of "sightseeing" while actually engaging in prostitution.  After more than a month of searching and locking down Longan Street and Chengong 1st Road, police succeeded in pinpointing three call stations that were arranging arrivals of Thai women to come to Taiwan to engage in prostitution. 

 

By Wednesday, Police felt they had gathered enough information to launch raid, and at 9 p.m. that evening, a taskforce of Keelung police, detectives and immigration officers converged on a brothel located on Railway Street (Keelung's red-light district). During the raid, police apprehended 20 prostitutes, including 17 Thai nationals and three Taiwanese women, as well as 11 customers.

A few years back, a Tong (Triad) member was interviewed in a London TV report on prstitutes in KL, Malaysia. He admitted Thais were very popular and that the Triad chiefs routinely arranged with local police for a big raid to show the public something was being done.  Girls were processed, records disappeared after deportation, and they were back in business a few weeks later. It's always been this way ... It'd be better to stop the pretense eh?

For at least two years, recently extended through 31 August 2018, Thai citizens can travel to Taiwan visa-free for 30 days. This was done as a "goodwill" gesture according to Taiwan officials.

 

No word on if it will be extended another year.

 

That said, Thai overstays are a big issue for Taiwan, making it a bit more challenging for Thai tourists to gain entry. Many go on package tours, and most plan to return to Thailand, but on some tours the luggage is closely managed by the tour operator. This makes it a bit more difficult to do a runner.

I would like the stats on how many johns finish in under 15 minutes, but like other similar sex stats; they are debatable at best. However, I have seen Thai hookers in the Netherlands, Germany, the US, Singapore, Malaysia, and Korea. Oh yes, and also in Thailand.

 

I also believe immigration officials are aware of the numbers of Thai prostitutes in their countries; which may be why visas for Thai women undergo such scrutiny.
