Rambo has taken umbrage and withdrawn his pithy input. I tried to warn you all several posts ago, well now he's hurt and has sent us to Coventry. I think we older persons are a little too coarse for the more sensitive souls on the board. Please try to set a good example for the youngsters.

BTW, Alf, I'm saving a wee dram for ye, comin' over in September when ma tractor's tuned.

Save a schluck for me gwertz , we will be there in august and september too :D:o Nignoy

You're on nignoy. Phuket or Patt? Sorry, off topic a little there. I wish Rambo would forgive us though. I'd like a chance to explain how difficult it is to remain polite when your piles are giving you gyp and your pension cheque's lost in the post.

If I may suggest, the difference in age range of those living in Los is due to Visa issues.

I believe we all understand that for those under 50, single, un-employed (in Thailand) it is very difficult to remain in Los with long term goals in mind. Hence the "young" blokes are forced to come and go frequently, leaving only the wise and thus giving the impression that Los is "an old peoples home"

Just a thought. not bashing anyone. Sorry if you are offended.

P.S. 21st Sept sounds good. I'll bring my German nurse. She's hard but capable and up for any event. Can you give Nignoy a shout in case his hearing aid's on the blink again?

Does she do enemas? :o

And how! With a vacuum cleaner tube, not very arousing, I prefer the blanket wash. And that white uniform and those long strong legs and firm...................................hang on, I'll be back in a shake.

Perhaps we can get the German nurse to toss the caber, whilst we old 'uns nurse our single malts...

My Dad took me to a Scottish Games once near San Francisco, Ca when I was a wee lad of 8 or so in the 1950's.

Caber, etc. Much tossing of heavy dangerous objects for distance. Very interesting and I remember it vividly to this day the dancing, music and festive atmosphere. :o

im new around here (thai visa), but have been in LOS for 4 years. im 27 in pattaya (gods waiting room).

im my experience every time i meet someone who is in their 50's-60's and they ask me how long ive been here they seem to be really disgusted, as if ive no right to live in this wonderful country.

a question for the arl fellas here.. is it jealousy that a young(ish) lad can live here well?

its just very amusing to me to see some peoples faces when i tell them how long ive been here, income etc...

Kopite, there is never an excuse for boorish behavior whether the boor is young or old. I used to run into the same reaction when I told people I had been in LOS for a year or so. And when I told them I was in a relationship with a ladyboy, man you should have seen the looks then!!! Now, after being a parttime resident of Thailand and the USA and still in my relationship with my ladyboy, I just ignore other people's reaction. Time is too short to dwell on it. Still, if you read Thai Visa, you will clearly see that there is a segment of the expat population that is very pompous and judgmental...and not just limited to age. I have a hunch if you and I met (and I'm in the 50-60 age group), you would find someone who is honestly interested in why you are in LOS and what your future plans are. But then, that is just me. Don't make the mistake of painting everyone with the same brush.

FP is dead right, kopite. Most of the vexatious characters are not really bad, it's just that they get bored with the easy life and start looking to push buttons. And there's no age limit for boors. Some turn to TV to post pompous epistles and sermons but what can you do, it's free for all, even for fruitloops. I've made some friends on the board among the old farts and the youngsters too. As you'll notice from this long running thread, most of the antagonists have lost interest and gone off to bugger up other threads. Most of us who are left are just harmless old wags swapping jibes. Senility rules OK!

Just wanted to say QWertz that I have spent a lot of time in Germany. My first wife was from Berlin. She was an absolutely wonderful person who died far too young. But we had 14 glorious years together. I have a great affinity for German people and I can't wait to take my partner on a driving tour of your great country.

oh yeah i know, most of my mates are at least 10 years older than me, some 30 years. its just unbelievable though. why be angry/upset with someone because thay have the fortune/balls to live in a far away country, and is younger than them.

just doesnt register with me. shame really, but expats are a fickle bunch. more interested in financial/social drinking standing than looking after/respecting their own.

but still...love it here

FP, do the lake district where I live, you'll love it. It's not too far from Berlin. My wife was German too and died too young . BTW, I'm a Brit but after about 18 years here I suppose I'm 90% German now and I think of it as my great country. Bloody sight better than England.

Caper fat chance, now that my memory has been jogged about it thanks to he San Francisco post.

The wheel chair will never take the wieght LOL

For you young guys I recently had a nephew move here, 12 years younger then I. His second try, first time a real dream world attempt. I was still working in the states when he failed I was in a postion to get him started back in a field that made good money.

Most good work is found through networking and it takes contacts. He came without a retirement built a beautiful home on the river. Has a Thai business of sorts. Seems to bring in about 40K a month enough to make it. But is finding out that making it isn't the same as enjoying it. He is always talking to me about foriegn jobs a I did one for a short period of time just to see what it was like, really didn't need the money and wouldn't do it again.

I'm not in a position to help anymore I have lost my contacts now, been to long. Am I concerned for him of course. I hope he finds a way here. But. it seems like far more fail then succeed at that. For those that do I admire you. For those that don't hope they didn't burn all the bridges.

As long as you follow some common since rules to protect your future I think it's great that you can do this in your life. Just never forget getting old only is stopped one way, a far as I can tell it doesn't look like much fun. Could be wrong haven't tried it yet which I'm why I'm old LOL.

So have all the fun you want especially when your in your 20's heck you got lots of time to recover. But never forget time doesn't ignore anyone. You do need to think of the day when you simply won't be able to do what you do today.

There is lots of kidding around in this thread as it should be, but never forget where it started old guys living a life the way they want. The view some people had of that, do you think the work force is any different? If you haven't taken care of your needs early on, more then likely you are going to have a very difficult time in your older years. Now here is the real surprise I really enjoy having fun just a much at 60 as I did at 20. What I did in between is what allows that to happen.

I wish you all luck.

ray23, I'm having more fun now than I had at 20 because I'm now realising the stage in life that I could never envisage at that age. At 20 the idea of growing old is irrelevant so you don't plan for it. And why are there so many old farts chilling out in LOS? Because they're smart enough to have laid a little by to pay for it. We found LOS before the youngsters and it's thanks to us and our street smarts that they're still not paying European prices for everything.

Point of order qwertz - biologically there's no such thing as an"old fart". Every fart is "fresh". Well, perhaps not the most descriptive choice of word, but you know what I mean.

Some of the old farts on this board are certainly a bit fresh.

As a fresh old fart, I consider myself lucky to have had the fun of being a brighteyed and very bushytailed 19 yearold in an almost Virgin Thailand and after 45 years still being able to treat our 6 monthly return as a whole new experience :o Nignoy

Two Bulls on top of a hill, one was in his latter years, the other a youngster. The youngster says to the old bull after looking down into the valley and watching all the cows "lets run down there and <deleted> some of them", the old bull says "no, we will walk down and <deleted> all of them".

The funniest time for me in Thailand was in Pattaya, I was in a bar just before central on 2nd, watching people as you do, a taxi pulled up, the driver got out and made his way to the rear left hand door, out steps an elderly chap that looked about 82-84, all the young ladies from the bar rushed over to him and helped him to a seat at the bar. I'm sure he had a great time, and hope he is still having fun...........

Its not about age, its about mentality, and living most of your life then loosing your partner (one way or another) get over it, if you have a problem with age, go back and work for the money they can afford to spend, GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU MATURE GENTS/LADIES, I wish I make it to the understanding that you have :o:D

Quote Alf: That must have been a long time ago, Nignoy.

Are you responsible for its downfall?

Too bloody right he is, Alf. I reckon he's left more mysteries behind him than Jim Thompson. And the worst of it is, he's not finished yet. :o
