Gen Prayut confirms Thailand general election in Feb 2019

BANGKOK,- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has confirmed the country's readiness to strengthen trade ties with England and hold a general election early next year.

On his visit to the United Kingdom, Gen Prayut had talks with Speaker of the House of Lords, Lord Fowler about promoting trading opportunities between the two countries through the so-called Global British policy and the Thailand 4.0 policy, with the Thai - UK Business Leadership Council playing a key role in the matter.

With regard to Thailand's political situation, Gen Prayut confirmed that the general election would be held in February next year and local elections might take place three months after the general election.

Gen Prayut also had the opportunity to meet Thai people in London and thanked those who offered moral support to him. Thailand's prime minister said he was not angry with those who oppose him, adding he came to the UK for the country's sake.

Gen Prayut however, had to cut short his meeting with Thai expats due to a terror warning from security officers. The Royal Thai Embassy in London announced the warning affecting Thai people and advised them to exercise caution when returning home.

So there it is confirmed. Prayut now only has 8 more months in which to rig the election. And we all know that is exactly what he plans on doing.

  • Also, because he expected to meet Mother Teresa when he heard he would be meeting Theresa Mae.

  • Didn't he "confirm" to Trump the election would be held in 2018 ?

Why does he keep making these statements of when the election will be. What date was it well in America that he did not keep can any one remember? The one thing he does very well is lie.

Yes he has 8 more months.. in that time he will try to convince more people from the PTP to leave their party. He has 8 more months to give gifts to the people from the state (seen that one before someone gets beaten at their own game).

Its unfair that others cant campaign that is for sure but all this defecting of MP's that just shows they were hired hands to begin with. Paid to stay with a party.. now someone made them a better offer. Now if the people stay with those MP's that defected that shows that people are more bound to their local leaders then party politics.

Its an interesting thing to watch the fight between the junta and the PTP.. too bad that I don't like either one of them but both are the ones with the highest chances to form the next government. Though with all the defections the PTP looks weakened and Prayut might even get enough real votes for proxy parties to give him legitimacy.

Would much rather have seen the new parties make an impact.

When he was saying that - did he move his lips?

Should he ever win those elections whenever they are, you can expect, well no, sure they're forged.

Thai people generally don't speak much about their politics, for sure not with foreigners. In recent time that changed quite a bit, to my surprise btw, even Bangkok people had not much good to say, and I didn't start any of those topics.

It's all going to be perfectly fixed, it already is.

I have discussed politics with quite a few Thai people but what i hear is that there are many people who just don't believe in change. I think they are right.. no matter who is in power the corruption and nepotism will be there.

So they are not that interested about politics as it just does not change things that much. They have a lot of bad things to say that is for sure.. but the ones i spoke with see no solution. Maybe the new parties.. but the old ones certainly  not.

I am BKK based so i might get other opinions from those up north.

True what you say but I also hear a lot of cynical comments about the present regime and I have never experienced so many people prepared to discuss topics like this than years ago. I think most people know that this will be a big stitch up.

Oh for sure they are cynical of the current goverment I am too. I just don't think it will be a stitch up. Votes will be counted honestly. The unfair part is that Prayut now campaigns while others cannot. As for defecting MP's from parties that just shows they were never loyal to a party but to their wallet. That also shows why they stayed with a certain party because they got money from it.

Oh, sure! And if it is true - what a little coward. Run, run, run - and hide under the table. What a great, fearless warrior!

Thanathorn's 'Future Forward Party' looks like a real chance for Thailand to move forward into the 21st century.

Unfortunately - he and it will be blocked. So much is clear.

May be wrong but I think it was Simon & Garfunkel who wrote: "All lies are jest 'til a man hear what he wants to hear and disregards the rest'.

Someone else wrote: 'There's never any shortage of fools lining up to buy the next batch of snake oil'.

I think they were all right.

I see him as someone I would support but I been wrong in the past.  I don't see how the old parties could make things change... they never have in the past only cared about making money. So why would it be different this time (same goes for junta)

No need to disregard what I hear its all pretty consistent here in BKK.. no faith in PTP.. no faith in junta or democrats. They just think things never change. I think they are right.. the old parties will never change their ways. The old parties havent done anything good for the country in the last decade only tried to get rich themselves. Why would this change now ?

I think he potentially embodies everything that Thailand needs. He is intelligent, articulate, seemingly uncorrupted, seemingly moral and ethical - and he would not disgrace Thailand on the world stage.

If I were Thai, I would probably vote for him. BUT if Thanathorn is sincere - he will never be allowed to get into the seat of power. He would tread on too many militaristic toes ...

If he gets enough votes then he can't be denied the power. I just don't think he will get enough votes this time. He still has to prove himself and build a network. I wish it was different but i think he will get votes but not enough.. next election will be better for him if he can stay in the news.

Hmmm Maybe. Yet  maybe not. I guess we'll see. But I do think there's a considerable surprise up someone's sleeve. Perhaps a last tilt at the 'old picture' windmill? Worth a wish upon a star at least.

Same reason you never hear from the old 'but... but... but... Thaksin' drones any more. Evolution got rid of the lizard dinosaurs in it's own way once already.

Once evolution got rid of Thaksin and the junta and new parties take over then we are there.. but we are far from there. So I understand why people are still not having faith in change.

Ah yes. The piece of cheese that defieth understanding... Well, I guess we'll see. I'd be prepared to bet we won't be hearing very much from the Shin-haters if PTP pulls off a surprise...

If he loses it would have been because he is incompetent, a fraud and corrupt.

If he wins then it was clearly rigged. Everybody here is saying it but short on details on how that actually works.

He will be elected especially since the last 4 years have been a learning curve politically for him.

I would vote him in for sure, no difference to any other politician except he is already in office.

Why i won't dislike the Shins any less if they win, like the junta they are corrupt bad people. Only those who are blind don't see that. The Shins have done nothing for Thailand but fill their own pockets. The only ones who like the Shins are the farmers if they get bribed enough.. funny that people who think its ok to offer farmers incentives to vote PTP revolt at the idea of Prayut buying votes with his Thai Nayom and other things. Its all the same only open minded people like me condemn both.

I wonder. Prayuth preparing to don martyrs garb in preparation for a close shave? Methinks he'll look just charming in sackcloth and ashes.

There's something almost quaint about the smell of burning martyr, but it's a mantle I don't think this guy could carry it with any street cred. Mind you, he didn't have a lot of that anyway.

Yes, I think this 'imminent attack' from terrorists against Prayut and co. is a tried-and-trusted piece of fakery to make the poor guy look like he is under attack and needs our support. He will say:

'You see? Bad people, even abroad, want to stop our new Thai democracy. They don't want the Thai people to have the chance of reforms and a better future, without corruption. What do you want? Do you want these terrorists to rule Thailand? You see what they try to do - even in foreign countries ...'

8 months,eh,expect more populist policies to be rolled

out to the poor and farmers, especially Issan, you need

to get their vote if you want to win,the purchase of

former MP's from other parties, better to use the taxpayers

money for all of this, instead of one's own.if all this does

not work,say the 3rd hand or communists,anything,have

infiltrated the election process, and stay on as Dictator.

win win situation, especially if the army are behind him,

Oh,he better give them something to just to make sure.
