Pond Paint

Madam wants her koi pond "beautifying", it also has a small leak that needs fixing. The fish have moved out into temporary accommodation.

 

Pond is currently plain concrete coloured, SWMBO want's it blue, she said tiles, I think we could get a similar result with a painted finish.

 

Question, what type of paint and where to obtain same? Costs?

 

Obviously, it needs to be non-toxic to fish.

I'm still going to hold out for paint, it's really too curvy for tiles.

I bought some paint from Jotun, it's a special paint

for painting ponds,and water tanks etc, this is years

ago,about 20 and its still holding up,it will be a lot

easier than tiles ,If i remember correctly it was a

two part paint, the actual paint and a hardner.

 

Find a Jotun distributor in your area,and explain

what you want,he may have a catalogue that will

explain the paint better,I got the blue colour,and

it is non toxic to fish.when cured.

Have you seen those mosaic tiles? Loads of little (2cm square?) held together with string. Should cope with curves.

You could always compromise and do a one foot tile  border at the waterline and then paint the rest...

Sounds like just what I need for the inside of my wall-pipe water tanks that are due for a drain and scour this coming week.

The fish were quite happy with the bare (ok, algae green) concrete.

 

Actually, our now 12"+, pleco was very happy keeping the algae down.

The geese don't love me either as they're blocked from their swimming pool whilst the koi are in residence, the geese have to make do with a builder's mixing trough.

If the OP comes to visit Buriram, he can see the Jotun pond paint, yes two part, that was painted in 2015 by the expat owner of "Jack's Resort" on Highway 2078.  Jack did the painting himself. To me it had faded faster than I thought. The hardener is strict on the time printed on the can of paint.

The quality of the concrete you are painting with Jotun pool pond paint must really matter. The Jotun paint is flaking off in the pond at Jack's Resort in Buriram. The tile on the wall and floor of a fish pond are in good shape after five years. The paint did not make it to three years. Before the OP spends time and money on paint for a pond he might want to see the exact brand, exact series of paint that was painted at least two years prior. The data base of a paint retailer might show what customer had special ordered such paint.
