If you had to leave LOS permanently, what would you miss?

No need to mention wives or girlfriends, obviously we'd all miss them.

This thread isn't about things people don't like. If you want to complain, please start your own thread.

 

To get the ball rolling, I'd miss:

The great cinema experience here. It's like it used to be 40 years ago back home, before the multiplex became normal.

The heat- lovely.

The prices- unless one wants to live like a rich westerner, accommodation and food is very cheap. Dental and Dr prices are so cheap it's almost a pleasure paying the bill.

Public transport- it's dirt cheap compared to back home, and extremely available. Trains are incredible value, and the intercity buses are fantastic.

Food- the variety is amazing and the cost is minimal, unless buying imported food.

Restaurants- they are everywhere, and soooooo cheap.

Cable tv without ads.

Being able to stay in a nice room with ensuite right on the beach. Beats having to stay in a tent, like back in my home country.

I'd miss weekends in the park when it's cool

Well done! I forgot the bum gun. One of the things in LOS that is better than back home. That would be very much missed by me.

Being able to ride a motorcycle without getting hypothermia or having to dress like the Michelin Man

 

Low cost foot massage

Of course the girls, but that goes without saying. I was hoping to leave that side of LOS out of this thread, or it'll just go down the usual path when the antis find it. Be great if we can stick to what we would miss, and not what we don't like.

They've all been mentioned but for me it will be mainly the food and cheap massage.  A bit also the great malls, good bookstores, and wide variety of nice restaurants.

Well...since I have left-and probably permanently due to health issues-I will have a stab at it.

1.The spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

2.The chanting of monks and the general experience of the village waking up in the early mornings.

3.The colour,vibrancy and sense of activity.

4.The (generally speaking) personable people and culture.

5.The attractive well dressed women

 

Honourable mention goes to the bum gun as well.

Unfortunately the heat did me no good whatsoever.

The bum gun, fer shooor. (I have found portable BGs on the internet -- 1 is a squeezy job, and the other is battery powered -- and both are a reasonable substitute).

 

My regular oily massage and the delectable teasing of the masseuses. There's nothing like it anywhere in this world.

 

The 24-hour a day vibrancy of Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard.

 

My regular cup of tea at Central Festival where I sit and watch the passing parade.

The feeling of being in my twenties again. At least until i wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, and find out it is not true anymore!

Being able to say: The bill is on me and it feels truly good

You guys hit the major stuff, however, I miss camping at beach or middle of forest in a tent back in Oregon.

Oddly, I think I'd miss the sense of chaos and anything goes quality so often experienced here. Sort of keeps you "in the moment" as you never know who might run you over from what direction, what bad wiring might bring it all to a sudden end, etc

The ability to wear shorts and T-shirts 365 days a year.

Watching Thais work like busy ants as they go about earning a living each day. Admirable.

Travelling about by scooter (in shorts and T-shirt).

Never being far from a 7-11.

Looking up at Doi Suthep on a clear day and remembering past rides up the mountain.

A stroll around the moat and Old Chiang Mai at night especially the night markets.

More. So much more.

The climate,

Smiles,

Eye candy,

The sights and sounds of wildlife in my garden,

Easy and inexpensive travel options which add variety to life,

Being able to get a medical consultation with a specialist on a walk in basis,

Being able to get a medical test such as an MRI performed on request,

My dentist,

Depends on where you go. All of those can be found in other countries.

 

The only thing I would miss are the friends I have met here.
