One wonders that a rope has not be trailed from the point of entry  .

In a cave 10Km long that would need to be a big rope.

As long as they are in a "safe" place, and have access to water, they can last weeks. They would be pretty skinny, but alive. Severe symptoms start at 35 to 40 days and death at 45 to 61 days.

However, given they are sportsmen, they may last less time that fat people would, as less reserves.

That may well be the case on a warm Desert Island with plenty of fresh air and sunshine but in complete darkness once batteries run out and in possibly cramped conditions, damp or even soaking wet with little or no food, flimsy clothing etc i would think you could halve that survival forecast, or perhaps even divide it by four.

Absolutely. The disorientation and darkness is literally unimaginable.

It's quite warm in the cave.

Unless you're sitting in water, your clothing would dry quickly.

I wouldn't go caving in SE Asia...I'll will be doing the one mile lava tube in Newberry volcanic monument in Oregon in September....

and ill do my homework and preparations to see how well it is managed ahead of time....

Ropes can be tied together to make a longer rope  if the need arises....

It's also possible to put steel pegs in the walls every 100 yards and tie the rope around them.....

What if the situation is reversed?

What if the water is up to chest or neck level and they can not sit down?

How long could anyone tolerate that before succumbing to exhaustion?

Not long. Then you're talking hypothermia.

A very tragic situation and the usual type come on as an excuse to bash thai people, their abilities etc etc.

What a disgrace.

Have some compassion and humility.

I realise that is a big ask

have you even been following this ,or just jumping on the ''bandwagon'' mid stream..and had that been your son in that cave, knowing they( THAIS in true thainess), waited almost 4 days to except outside help, which was offered from several countrys .Thai visa didn't even run this story until wed,not a word, and the Hero was in France and shows up Friday FRIDAY.. you are sad sir, just sad...have a good evening
