Thank you very much Elviajero. Does the one office cover the whole of bangkok, it must get very busy, what are are the best times to go?

Yes it does.

It does get busy. It’s usuall best to get there early when it opens, or just before they issue the last ticket, which I believe is 15:30. Don’t go late morning as they stop for lunch at 12:00, which adds an hour to the process.

Thanks again Elviajero. It's just that this will be the first time I shall be applying for the extension based on marriage, or anything else for that matter,so good at least to know exactly where and when to go. Things I have read in the past of the whole procedure make me a bit nervous. ?

The Immigration will visit you after a few weeks/ months and ask your neighbors many questions. That was a long time ago, but I'd think it's still the same procedure. Be well dressed and never speak loud, there's no reason to be nervous. Good luck.

Nothing to be nervous about. They aren't looking for reasons not to give you an extension. They are 'programmed' to ensure the paperwork meets the standards their line boss requires to sign off. If for any reason somethings is not right you will be able to go back with the right document. Don't leave it to the last day just in case there is a problem with your paperwork. You can apply within the last 30 days of your current 90 day stay and the extension will start on day 91 regardless of how early you apply.

Immigration rarely make unannounced visits. Chaengwattana immigration don’t, as a rule, do home visits during the application process.

Is it no longer possible to apply for extensions of stay at Chaengwattana Immigration up to 45 days in advance of the current permission to stay expiring?

It can still be done up to 45 days early.

alphim,

the office doors open around 8:30am.  many people show up before that (i never have) and i believe they hand out queue numbers to the early arrivals and people lineup by number before the doors open at 8:30am.

i usually show up around 9:15am and sometimes i'm done by the noon lunchbreak, sometimes i'm not.  this is for the L desk, which handles non imm O extensions.  they process 15-20 an hour.  when you enter the office, walk through the first small lobby where you'll see people filling out forms and such.  then you'll see the line to get a queue number for the desk that handles the task you are there for (in your case, the L desk).

there are coffee shops and some food outlets on the floor below.  you don't have to sit in the L area and wait the whole time.  the queue number you get will show how many people are ahead of you.  if it says 30 people, you know you have at least an hour to kill downstairs.

i'm not sure which 'strategy' is the quickest.  if you show up at 7:30am and get an early number, you'll likely still be at the offices for 2 hrs.  probably slightly less than showing up at 9:15am.  but you have no risk of hitting the lunch hour with the early arrival.  i was stuck there late once (i arrived around 2pm) and it wasn't easy to get a taxi out of there at 4pm.  if you use the late arrival strategy, it might be best to have your own car.  maybe others that have arrived mid afternoon can opine on that.

there are also bank branches and copy/photo services downstairs in case you forgot something required for your document package.
