Looking for smelling salts

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen the traditional smelling salts here in Thailand? I have tried everywhere and for a long time to find it but seems impossible here, just get the usual blank stare from pharmacies and similar places, even in boots. Thanks and regards,

I'd try the tubes that Thai's are always sticking up their noses. They call them yadom which just means medicine dom. I know aren't smelling salts but they sure give you a kick.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried these but they really have no ‘kick’ to them that the smelling salts have. This ‘kick’ being because it’s basically ammonia, traditionally made with ammonia crystals with cotton wool placed on the top inside the bottle and the ammonia, over time, soaking in to the cotton wool. If you’ve never tried/inhaled the smelling salts, it’s difficult to describe each ‘kick’ from it. My Mother swore by this for many things, headaches, dizziness, sinus problems, nose blocked, etc.

If you're looking for something to snort and give you a kick I'm sure you'll soon get loads of advice on alternatives and where to buy.

Don't know about smelling salts.

Surely ammonia is available?  Just a drop into a small bottle with cotton wool on top.

Is "aromatic ammonia spirit" usable?

But why is it available at office supply stores ?

Excuse my ignorance.

I tried to find smelling salt in Thailand.

Absolutely desperate.

I already tried this one khunBENQ but it doesn’t have the strength to help. It seems to be a very watered down or weak ammonia which, whilst still has the ammonia smell to it, it is possible to take a long sniff of this one without the ‘shock factor’ of smelling salts. Maybe I’ll just have to wait til someone goes to the UK for a holiday, or someone comes here for a holiday, to get some. Seems the only way that it will be available.
