Any out of left field things to do in CM?

 

City seems a bit boring.

Visiting hmong tribes and seeing mountains upon mountains of ganja. 

 

Trekking through hmong cauliflower farms to waterfalls etc.

 

Eating khaoi soi.

That would take people by surprise. And be a bit out of the left field, I would imagine.

They have a couple of very nice shopping malls ... one at Nimman and the other across the river. The second hand bookshops are also worth a look in the walled city. The night market beyond the bar area is worth a stroll. Other than that it’s a bit dull.

 

Out of left field ... try some Shabu?

 

 

... but if you want excitement, head to the airport and go to Bangkok.

1. Visit the San Kampaeng Hot Springs and hard boil a basket of eggs in the hot springs.  The place has become a shrine to hard boiled eggs.

 

2. Visit Wat Phra Phutthabaht Tak Phah temple in Lamphun.  Well known amongst Chiang Mai citizens it's located on a hill about 20 km south of Lamphun city off of Route 106 in tambon Ma Kok.  Not many people visit this temple which is all the more reason to go there.

Take an early morning train to Lamphun or Lampang. In Lamphun stroll around the old city wall and then catch a songtaew home; in Lampang, catch a horse and buggy for a tour of the city before catching a bus home.

Buy some sushi at a night market, the ones that have been out on open display a few hours out of the fridge. Warm sushi is quite an adventure.

 

On a serious note, rent/borrow a scooter or bike, get a camera, go riding out of the city through small towns. Lots of amazing scenery and local sights to photograph.

I think I’ll pass on my weekly visit to the Rimping by the river until this thread dies down...

7) Chiang Mai water park at the Grand Canyon, Hang Dong

Try Chiang Mai Erotic Gardens in the Mae Rim district, directions on Google. 300 baht per person, but well worth it for those with a sense of humor.
