In 1956 a Texan named Johnny Allen set the world speed record for a motorcycle there, riding a Triumph powered machine. The original Triumph Bonneville was named in tribute to this when it came out in 1959.
March 9, 20197 yr Popular Post This is one of my favourite videos on YouTube, but I was wondering whether to post this here or not, as it's not motorcycle related. However, the Merlin engine has appeared a number of times in this thread, and we seem to all be aficionados of well crafted machinery, merging form and function to the highest level, and the Spitfire is arguably the culmination of that goal. Besides, if you haven't seen this before then you will enjoy it.

I believe the price dropped from 700,000b to 500,000b on what ever model that applied. But all the prices dropped on Triumphs

But good call bp .. From what I heard, they asked for a low fly over, but didn't know it would be that low, and the reaction was real. I have a high res photo taken during that shoot, which shows just how close the propeller got to the ground. Look at the angle of the plane, he's not climbing here, but flying parallel to the ground, straight for the camera. He did have to climb just after this was taken, to avoid taking out the camera and reporter.

Pre Tonti , loop frame, early dynamo motor (the first motors ran a belt driven dynamo nestled in the vee a la cars). Nice early Lockheeds on the front. Bike is built with a lot of period parts, - only thing spoiling it is the later fully floating discs. Prolly worth a fortune. Here's another from the same guy.

What a stunning bike in "plain" white. Indeed. "Alaskan " white. Stock 65-67 TT Bonneville. 1 3/4" straight thru pipes. 37 inches long end to end. Around a genuine 54 bhp. And street legal. Can't quite make out if it was the East Coast or West Coast version. A Fantasmorical motorcycle. Edit, here's it's cousin with lights, more weight, less CR (the TT had 11:1 !!), and quieter exhausts (1 5/8" with silencers).... still a wonderful bike.... Edited March 9, 20197 yr by thaiguzzi
