Pedestrian bridge for Srisuvit School sought

PATTAYA:--Banglamung officials have asked the Royal Thai Police to pick up the tab for a new pedestrian bridge over Sukhumvit Road near Srisuvit School.

District Chief Naris Niramaiwong met with RTP social welfare chief Pol. Col. Samrerng Songsieng June 27, pointing out the overpass would also be located right by the Pattaya-area police barracks, which Samrerng oversees.

Naris asked for the police department’s support and funding for the bridge, which has been estimated to cost 6 million baht to construct.

Sretsak Faklit, president of the Rong Poh Community, where the overpass would be located, said this was not the first time residents have requested that the government build a walkway over busy Sukhumvit Road, but previous requests only made it to the consideration stage.

Naris said the previous request was approved, but disbursement of funds remained pending due to lack of feedback from the school and police department.

Just take one of the scores of unused foot bridges around the country.....Put a pedestrian tunnel under the highway and it will be popular (with motorcyclists?)

This School has been calling for a pedestrian bridge for years.

Something needs to be sorted out as an old man waving a red flag at 4 lane motorway speed traffic in order for people to cross the road is not really an option

They can easily afford it.

Yes this maybe true.

Especially as some posters are prepared to pay large bribes to the Police and Immigration officers, then complain about it on Tv. :whistling:

Be nice if some good,  like a new foot bridge come out of it all.

Actually they could do with half a dozen footbridges over the road at intervals ,nearly knocked a girl down yesterday as she ran across the road then stopped in the middle .
