Popular Post jimmysjo
I used to ride a Yamaha XT 500 around Thailand from 1990 (brought in from abroad) and for several years. Now I saw this beauty outside my local shop. Edited July 9, 2018 by jimmysjo
GordonP
I've also been tempted but seeing the Himalayan model at the Burapa Bike Show in Patts last Feb, have decided to wait and see the reviews on that model. My use is going to be regular trips from Patts up to Issan and beyond into Laos and I prefer the sitting position.

off road pat
One of my French friends living in Chiang Mai, went to India a few months ago. He bought a Royal Enfield there and travelled around in N. India for a month. He also fell in Love with the bike and wanted to bring it over to Thailand but couldn't. According to him It was a very reliable bike. Royal Enfield's are very inexpensive in India !

Popular Post Lokie
I went through exact same thing in 2013 (back in UK) to the point I ended up in a Manchester Triumph dealers who had a Mint Classic 500 with low miles at a good price... I walked out buying a Brand spanking new Triumph Bonneville T100A2 (I never seen that coming lol) Enfield was £5000 and Triumph at time was £7200 (2k down and 0% finance on rest) I fell in love with the Bonny, puts a smile on my face every day when Im riding it in UK (I have a Honda Forza 300 in LOS) At end of day I don't think you can go wrong with the RE but do check other bikes within your price range as there are some great modern tech retro style bikes (like my Trumpet, has the looks but none of the leaks 555)
Bung
When I bought mine I had a test ride on one from the dealer no problems. I didn't need one, I had already bought it in my mind!

Thanks for your input. By the way, I quite like doggy but each to his own.

I got back into motorcycles after many years hiatus and worked my way up to a Stallion 250. I wandered into a RE dealership in Ubon about a year ago. Long story short, on pure emotion bought a Classic 500 on the spot (well after due contemplation having a coffee), no test drive, no real knowledge about the brand. Impulsive shopping at its best, but like you just "fell in love with the bike". I don't get much opportunity to ride it due to work commitments) but so far have clocked up a little over 2000kms. As soon as I rode it for the first time it felt very confidence boosting (hard to explain accurately). Yes it doesn't go fast, yes it vibrates, but just love getting out on it and thumping around the countryside. Just my 2 cents worth. Like others have said, the vibrations seem to be diminishing with more miles, (or do you just get used to it?) 4

Not only did I have my best bike RE 500 before coming out here . In 1964 age 17 I bought from a chap at work a 976cc V twin RE for 10 bob. I sold it 2 years later for 12/6p . Could post a pic but cannot for some reason known to TV.
Popular Post user343434
I have been last July in Pattaya at the shop at the Royal Enfiled Shop and the 500 Chrome looks just perfect old style. Yes sure for the soul and the references worldwide given speaking for itself. Another issue is that she is regarding torque outstanding over all of her class. Lovely bike and not too much bothered to follow up the Japs plastic and one time use clip fender technology. I am myself considering to buy one for the near distance weekend drives. 190.000 baht a go, 500cc, or with a classic sidecar for 250.000 baht.. can't go wrong with that one.. and couldn't hold back to posts this pic again LOL 2
AllanB
My mate refused to hand over his 500 Bullet, but no big deal, it would have cost me a fortune to do it up compared to a ready-to-go and in my situation I need a pre 1980 bike (no MOT needed). So I keep looking on Ebay, I would love to ride one back to Portugal from the UK, with a bag of spanners, maybe find a side car later. I wonder if there are many Indian mechanics in France and Spain? Someone said they don't look cool, some whippersnapper most likely, not shaving yet...
onlycw
OP, comfort would be my concern. Modern bikes should last 10,000+ km without break-downs. And you won't abuse ir by revving it when cold... Why not take advantage of the bikes for rent? For the city, I'm considering a Suzuki GH 110 as speed doesn't matter to me. For the MHS Loop, try a Honda CB 500 F. I loved it, way more than the X.
