Popular Post webfact
All 13 rescued from flooded Thai cave - navy SEAL unit By John Geddie and Panu Wongcha-um CHIANG RAI, Thailand (Reuters) - All 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flooded Thai cave have been rescued, a Thai navy SEAL unit said on Tuesday, a successful end to a perilous mission that has gripped the world. "The 12 Wild Boars and coach have emerged from the cave and they are safe," the SEAL unit said on its official Facebook page. The "Wild Boars" soccer team and their coach got trapped on June 23 while exploring the cave complex in the northern province of Chiang Rai after soccer practice and a rainy season downpour flooded the tunnels. British divers found the 13, hungry and huddled in darkness on a muddy bank in a partly flooded chamber several kilometres inside the complex, on Monday last week. After pondering for days how to get the 13 out, a rescue operation was launched on Sunday when four of the boys were brought out, tethered to rescue divers. Another four were rescued on Monday and the last four boys and the coach were brought out on Tuesday. Celebrations will be tinged with sadness over the loss of a former Thai navy diver who died last Friday while on a re-supply mission inside the cave in support of the rescue. The last five were brought out of the cave on stretchers, one by one over the course of Tuesday, and taken by helicopter to hospital. Three members of the SEAL unit and an army doctor, who has stayed with the boys since they were found, were the last people due to come out of the cave, the unit said. Officials have not been commenting on the rescue mission as it has been taking place, so it was not clear what condition those brought out on Tuesday were in. The eight boys brought out on Sunday and Monday were in good health overall and some asked for chocolate bread for breakfast, officials said earlier. Two of the boys had suspected lung infections but the four boys from the first group rescued were all walking around in hospital. Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the rescued boys and some of their parents said they had not been told who had been brought out. They were not allowed to visit the hospital where the boys were taken. The rescued boys had not been identified out of respect for the families whose sons were still trapped, officials had said. The boys were still being quarantined from their parents because of the risk of infection and would likely be kept in hospital for a week to undergo tests, officials said earlier on Tuesday. pathologix
Are any news sources reporting on the water levels in the cave? Has pumping continued to bring the water down, or has rain counteracted the pumping? I'm wondering if the increased speed is in part due to better conditions within the cave. Probably a combination of lower water depths, better understanding of the evacuation and logistics. 3

Governor has reported that water levels remained unaffected by the rains.. They succeeded after much effort in finding several sources of water entry into the cave and damming/diverting these. Together with the vigorous pumping this is what made the initial discovery of the boys and then their extraction possible, along of course with expert divers. Even the Brit expert cave divers could not make headway getting in at first, no diver could until the water levels were reduced. Popular Post darksidedog
It seems that the coaches heroics are set to carry on to the end. When sick, he could have asked to be moved up the queue, but it seems has chosen, like the captain of a doomed ship, to be the last one off. Those boys are very lucky to have had a man of his calibre with him. He was probably the reason why this story is ending well. 11

webfact
Two more Mu Pa footballers removed from Tham Luang cave Tuesday Two more young footballers of Mu Pa Academy football club on Tuesday separately emerged from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province on the day 3 of operation to remove the remaining four football players and their assistant coach. Chief operation Narongsak Osottanakorn said earlier that the rescue authorities expected to remove all the stranded Mu Pa members from the cave today. The operation that began on Sunday have already retrieved eight of the 13 Mu Pa members who got stuck in the cave since June 23. The ninth boy emerged from the cave at 4pm while the tenth about 20 minutes later. They received medical examinations at a field hospital erected near the cave. They will follow the same pattern by boarding an ambulance to board helicopter to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital. The young Mu Pa Academy footballers, whose name have not been revealed, were taken by ambulance from the cave in Mae Sai district before boarding a chopper to Chiangrai Prachanukraw hospital in Muang district. They became the second and the third to come out of the cave on day two of the operation to evacuate the footballers and their assistant coach from the cave, where they were stranded 15 days ago. On Monday, four of his team members were separately extracted from the cave and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
