BANGKOK, 11th July, NNT - The Prime Minister has expressed his gratitude to all involved in the success of the Tham Luang rescue operation, which concluded last night.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered the message on the national television at noon today, briefly going over the event.

He recognized all individual agencies and organizations for providing assistance in all forms to the search and rescue efforts. He especially expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the King and all members of the Royal Household for their benevolence and kindness to all undertaking the rescue.

General Prayut, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, thanked everyone for their contribution. He also said the outpouring of moral support from around the world had helped make the mission a success.

He said the event is a great lesson that teaches us all, that even when the task is monumentally challenging, we can overcome it with unification and wisdom.

The Prime Minister underlined the importance of hard work, determination and sacrifice that make a task possible. General Prayut also paid tribute to Petty Officer First Class Saman Kunan, the former Navy Seal who lost his life while performing underwater work for the mission.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday made a televised address to thank all efforts that had contributed to the eventual success of the mission to rescue 12 young footballers and their assistant coach from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai.

The 3.45-minute speech took place a day after the last of the stranded Mu Pa Academy footballers were brought out of the cave on Tuesday evening, marking a happy ending to the 17-day operation in which Thai and international rescuers joined hands.

Prayut extended his “sincerest gratitude” to all involved in the mission including volunteers, government officials, private companies and media, as well as the moral support of people across the world.

“Although the mission has been accomplished, images of people from all walks of life coming together to lend their helping hands, regardless of race or religious belief, will remain with all of us forever,” the premier said.

“In times of crisis, when Thai people are faced with hardship, His Majesty the King and the Royal Family have always expressed concern and closely observed the situation, and have graciously provided direct assistance to all officials involved, with constant encouragement and guidance to the rescue mission,” he went on. “This is indeed a blessing for the Thai people.”

He also recalled the sacrifice of Petty Officer First Class Saman Kunan, a former Thai Navy SEAL diver, who volunteered and lost his life during the operation. Prayut said Saman’s legacy “will forever be in our hearts”.

He omitted to thank the Changmai governor whom he transfer in the middle of the rescue operation.

Yeah, and sadly that was to be expected.  The grand Hooha does not surrender the limelight to one day compositors easily.  The Hooha's shortcomings makes him the perfect tool for the golden circle that run Thailand.

It seems to me that there are quite a few farang that require a special thanks.

I'm not suggesting that he names individuals (although maybe one or two should be named if they deserve it), but it's not just the divers also the organisers and planners, many who I believe were foreigners. Watching the Thai Navy Seals video you can see the large part the foreigners played in the rescue.

I wondered who covered their costs?

You know what? Someone posted suggesting that this episode would go into the Thai history books as an entirely Thai success story, completely omitting the contribution of the British divers, and all other foreign contributors. That poster was immediately lambasted and ridiculed for his mere suggestion that this would happen.

And here we have his vindication. Mr. P giving an address, where the rest of the world has been reduced to providing an "outpouring of moral support". Truly amazing.

Much of the success of this rescue must surely be attributed to the British caver who lives locally (Vern Unsworth) who had explored and helped survey this cave within the last few years as part of a team with his mates the British Cave Divers.  As I recall, Vern was reported to have visited the cave the day after the boys went missing, and it was his insistence that the initial British team were called immediately...

I suspect he may be a TVF member, and if you are reading this - Well done to you Sir..!!

Couldn't agree more. He made the right call at the crucial early stages of the operation and managed to persuade the Thais in charge to act on it. Things could have unfolded quite differently if not for the input of Big Vern.

Nonsense, even a cursery look throuogh the English language Press Nation, Bangkok Post as well Thai television and the Thai Language Press shows that the efforts of the foreigin divers has been constantly and graciously recognised.

By the way I was intrigued to read that the post you cited with admiration highlights the British but  lumps the major role  made by the Laos, Japanese, Americans not to mention the Australian anaethetist and diver who oversaw  the rescue as "..all other foreign contributers,

Talk about pots and kettles

The original posting I referred to referred to what would be the "official" record of the event, not the what the press would report.

A simple, quick post on TVF, not an official statement by a government official. No comparison.

Of course it couldn't happen, it was already being reported as headline news worldwide. Everyone was well aware of the international cooperation involved, pretty much from the point when the British divers found them on day 8.

Moral support merely means he was thanking the countless people watching the saga on TV around the world and rooting for a successful outcome.
