Wage rise for judges gets first nod

THE National Legislative Assembly (NLA) yesterday overwhelmingly approved in principle a government motion seeking salary increases for judges, public prosecutors and members of independent organisations. The NLA’s first reading voted to pass amendments to five laws regulating personnel of the relevant agencies, as proposed by the Cabinet.

 

The supporting votes were 185 to 186 for each of the five laws, with just a few abstentions and no votes.

 

The five laws involve personnel and remunerations regarding the Courts of Justice, the Administrative Court, the Constitutional Court, independent organisations and public prosecutors.

 

Heads of the courts, the Office of the Attorney-General, and independent organisations would be among those benefiting from the proposed salary increases. Among the independent organisations involved are the Election Commission, Ombudsman’s Office, National Anti-Corruption Commission, Office of the Auditor General and National Human Rights Commission. In its motion for salary increases, the Cabinet cited the rising cost of living over the past four years.

 

The salary increases will require a budget of about Bt450 million, Deputy Premier Wissanu Krea-ngam said. The budget does not cover additional hikes for the NHRC. The hikes will be retroactive to December 1, 2014, except for the NHRC, which will see salary increases backdated to 2005.

These same judges that are dishing out 30 years for mushroom picking (reduced to 15 on confessions), those same judges sentencing scapegoats to death based on the shonkiest of evidence, those same judges sentencing illegal drivers who killed 9 people to do community service... Simply a farce and a shit show of the highest order. Those same judges who hide behind a law that criminalizes any scrutiny of their decisions.

These kinds of people should be IN JAIL THEMSELVES . Again am scratching my head at this, but some of the posts above have hit the nail on the head as to why the raise and why now.

Crazy especially because its retro active, it is however a good way to make sure judges see it the way of the junta. That could never be the reason of this honest government could it ?

I'm sure the figure will be the same, just with an amendment to the units - from day to minute?

 

edit: If the increase is backdated to 2005, does that insinuate it was award by a previous government? Awkward.

Those that supported it must be well pleased with the progress made against corruption and nepotism and relieved that the country is finally done with the silly democratic experiment.

 

Reform they wanted and now they are getting it.

Tax payers are paying for those salary increases to have a justice system that condone a coup, favour the rich and those politically aligned to the junta. Got it.
