Trouble broke out at a Ratanathibet 7/11 store on Saturday night after a sales girl forbid a man from drinking in the store.

Charoenrak Mokekaew serving in the Soi Rang Namkhaeng store felt threatened by Krit Saengnark, 36, who was staring at her outside the store after she told him to leave the shop.

So she called her friend Wattana Khamklom who arrived to confront the beer drinker, reported Manager.

A scuffle broke out in which Wattana suffered a cheek cut after Krit produced a nine inch knife.

Wattana went to get 5 or 6 of his mates and returned to the store to confront Krit. He sought refuge inside the store by the ice cream fridge but a melee developed. Part of the melee from CCTV was shown by Manager.

Lance Corporal Chaiyapreuk Sridaen, an officer from Phuttamonthon who was shopping and out of uniform, attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the stomach after Krit produced another 14" sword hidden in his waistband.

He was hit three or four times but is recovering in ICU in hospital. Krit was also wounded.

Krit said that he is clinically depressed and on medication.

He has been charged with attempted murder and weapons offences. He has denied everything.

Others involved in subduing Krit were hailed as "good Samaritans".

They were Wattana, Ekarat Wongrat and Prayat Truatmak.

Two or three days before Saturday's incident staff at the 7/11 had forbid Krit from drinking in the store that is against company rules.

He still carried on downing beer directly outside the store.
