Auspicious holidays brings two-day alcohol ban

Buddhist holidays will see a ban on alcohol sales across the country, including Phuket, next Friday and Saturday (July 27-28).
 

PHUKET: The series of major public holidays next weekend will bring a ban on the sale of alcohol for two consecutive days and see all major government offices close for a four-day weekend.

 

The auspicious Buddhist holidays Asarnha Bucha Day and Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent), also called “Vassa”, will be observed next Friday and Saturday (July 27-28), respectively.

 

As both are major religious holidays, the sale of alcohol is banned across the nation on both days.

EDIT I class this as "on-topic" as word games could be on the cards for those who failed to stock up. Just be happy we're not in India (specifically Bengaluru) where the hotels actually empty the mini-bars on no-alcohol days.

Do you have any specific group in mind,- the drug and potion dealers, sellers of lottery numbers, rapists, child molester, fraudster with unusual wealth, mercedes, rifle and gun collectors, or just the low life criminals hiding in temples as part time monks due to ongoing investigations?

Or maybe they've all finally learned how to buy 2 bottles of Chang from the 7-11 the day before instead of the usual 1 ?

Very rarely go there to buy my booze. With mom & pop shops galore who cares about a ban anyway? Business as usual.

I wonder why no mention that the Kings birthday is July 28th, it is after all, the reason I assume that they have used the word auspicious.

If you look at the table it tells you the King's birthday is 30th. That's another public holiday, but you can keep drinking then.

27th& 28th are for those "religious" reasons.

Never sure whether these bans are intended to impact the sale, or the consumption, of alcohol, but given one can purchase drinks beforehand and then consume at home, they are a pointless exercise.
