I was previously running Windows XP, and had a registry hack installed that disabled that annoying Caps Lock button on the keyboard. It was great, I had it for years.

Now I am running another installation, but can't find that old hack again. Can somebody give me a pointer to that hack or another easy solution?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]

"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,2a,00,3a,00,3a,00,46,00,\

No guarantee if this works with Vista

I can't recall ever using my caps lock in over a decade. Maybe I'll do the same but glue it in place for asthetic purposes.

Windows XP allows you to create a sound alert for pressing keys such as the Caps Lock. This way you know right away that you have pressed it. To accomplish this, open the Accessibility Options applet within the Control Panel. From the Keyboard tab, click the Use ToggleKeys option and click OK.

Now Windows XP will alert you each time you press any of the following keys: Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock.

For annoying keys (like the idiotic windows key) I just pulled it completely out of the keyboard. Problem solved.

Windows Key + M = Minimise all open windows (great for when the boss comes round and your surfing for jobs)

Windows Key + E = Opens Windows explorer

Windows Key = start menu

Windows Key + D = Shows the desktop

Windows Key + F = opens the search box

Windows key + L = Lock your computer

Windows Key + R = Starts the "Run" Command

Windows Key + F1 = Help menu

Windows key + pause/break = brings up systems properties

Windows key + tab = toggles through the buttons on the task bar

hope that helps

I use my keyboard extensively in daily use (I use cmd prompts, Ctrc-C, ctrl-V, etc. etc). But not the windows key. That's because it's located at a very bad place, and does the darndest things, at the worst times. For people who play FPS games, they know my pain. The things that they windows key does that you list can be done with minimal mouse clicks, or other key presses, so I'm not missing that functinality. I ripped them out right after buying the keyboard, and have not regretted it at all.
