Democrat 'black paper' exposes 34 corrupt projects

BANGKOK: -- The Democrats Monday launched a 'black paper' entitled: "Menus for Corruption in Thaksin's Regime," giving details of 34 projects suspected of corruption.

They said they would send the book to government agencies and embassies to study.

Deputy party leader Alongkorn Pollabutr, who also heads the party's corruption investigation team, said the book was a revelation of various forms of corruption during the five years under Thaksin Shinawatra government.

He would send the book to the government, the Council for National Security, the Assets Examination Committee as well as the media and the embassies of foreign countries in Thailand and Thai embassies abroad.

The book, priced Bt150, includes information of corruption on many projects that are now under investigation, including the procurement of the CTX 9000 bomb scammers, the rubber saplings scandal and alleged tax evasion in Shin Corp share sales.

Deputy Democrat Leader presents Black Books on Thaksin era corruption to CNS

The deputy leader of the Democrat Party has presented black papers on the "Corruption Menu of the Thaksin Era" to the Council for National Security.

The deputy leader of the Democrat Party, Mr. Alongkorn Polbuth (อลงกรณ์ พลบุตร), in his capacity as the Chairman of the Democrat Party's Corruption Investigation Working Committee has presented black papers on the "Corruption Menu of the Thaksin Era" to the Assets Examination Committee and the Office of the Auditor General of Thailand. The black papers included information concerning the Thaksin Administration's past 5 years of national management, and included 34 incidents of alleged corruption. Not all of the corruption allegations have been investigated, and Mr. Alongkorn believes that the black papers would be beneficial to the AEC's work.

Mr. Alongkorn alleged that during an APEC summit meeting in Mexico in 2002, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra used his position to garner business profits for his company, and that the Democrat Party had evidence and witnesses to back its claim.

Mr. Alongkorn added that a particularly corrupt business deal occuring in the Thaksin era was of a company owned by relatives of the former Prime Minister, which had a registered value of only 4 dollars, with annual revenues of 100 baht, being given a 10 billion baht bidding contract at the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Mr. Alongkorn said that he would discuss the matter with the National Counter Corruption Commission promptly.
