You could of clicked the link and got an answer, oh, no need, post #4 answers it.

Interesting that he was charged over 28m baht but they recovered 43m baht in assets.

Either there are a bunch of people out there who are too ashamed to say they were scammed or he's really good at investing his money.

There was a lot more than the amount in today's article when he first went AWOL.

A lot more.

'He was also ordered to repay all his victims.'

That involves the presumption that he has the funds to do so. Highly unlikely.

'Among the whoppers sold were what he claimed would be the world’s biggest jade Buddha statue and another of him made entirely of gold.'

They would pay for a statue of HIM in gold. The mind boggles.

He could be  prosecuted as he was not one of the "Hi Sos" that either  donates an annual large  brown envelope to the military controlled government or has various hidden  information of illegal dealings by those same groups. It is not who you blow , but what you know in LOS

Guarantee he won't serve the full term.... ?

Gosh, you could be right.
Quote from the original posting.  "He will, however, serve no more than 20 years, the maximum period allowed under the law."  And get out alive...................

that is a pretty narrow minded and ignorant view. What is it they say about people who think, talk and act in extremes..?

Why is it ignorant.   Abstracting money or gifts under false pretenses or else with unproven foundation is illegal

Firstly every religion is different. Secondly, every donation given is for a different reason. Do you think that for example, people giving money to meditation classes at a Buddhist temple in Australia, ran by a Western monk to be something under false pretences?

Sure, there are many many fakes out there, only in the religion game to take money from people and other nefarious means, but it isn't all. That is the issue with talking in extremes. Some religions will drives money to help charities, such as for homeless people or domestic abuse for example. So again, I bring the point back to thinking in generalities and extremes, it's narrow minded and short-sighted

The "29 Mil" is just what he scammed from the 29 donors that sued him. The "43 Mil" in assets is what he scammed from all the other people that donated to his temple over the years before he went on the lam. (The "43 mil" in assets may include the "29 mil" he scammed from those investors, meaning the other 14 Mil was probably scammed from all the other, smaller donors.)

Refreshing. About time some baddie got some serious jail sentence.

Hopefully this is a starter.

Wonder where the dosh went though  . . . .  ?

Wish the same were true for all the western banksters and Wall Street thieves who've amassed fortunes through fraud and never seen any time in prison or returned a fraction of what they stole.

What about Damachayo? very quiet about him, he must be laughing his socks off, where ever he is.:cheesy:

Hmm,..The monk you talk about has many high placed followers ! which in turn explains the silence and impunity !!!

No doubt he will be treated in a very royal manner, by his fellow inmates. They will take "special" care of him. He deserves what he got. He worked hard for this reward.

Let us just hope he actually serves the sentence. Money like that goes a long way here.

So how many months  will he actually have to serve?

Just wait to see how long it is before it is declared that he has serious health problems and must spend all of his sentence in a five-star hospital. It's happened before with other high profile scum.
