Bangkok will have two international airports

Bangkok will now have two international airports; Suvannabhumi and Don Muang, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said Tuesday.

Considering the increasing number of passengers and demands, the Cabinet decided that Don Muang Airport, which was shut down in September after Suvannabhumi was openned, will be re-opened.

He was speaking after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting Tuesday.

"Considering the problems we have now at Suvannabhumi Airport and the number of passengers are increasing, the Cabinet decided that Don Muang Airport will be re-opened and Bangkok will have two international airports."

:o

As we know Don Muang was never really closed. Flights have been landing there even after Suvannabhumi was actually open. The only difference is that they weren't normal commercial flights.

My prediction: Suvannabhumi will be closed or severly limited in number of flights, especially the heavy international flights for at leasta year while the runway is "repaired".

It will be a mess for travelers trying to get the correct info on which airport there flight is going into and which airport they are supposed to depart from.

As someone pointed out however on this forum, a lot of capital cities have more that one international aiport serving them.

All in all, the whole thing is turning into a joke, but unfortuneately it isn't that funny.

:D
