A police corporal has been arrested after showing up at the Yala Train Station on Sunday allegedly to collect a shipment of 200,0000 methamphetamine pills worth Bt24 million.

Hat Yai Railway Police Inspector Pol Lt Colonel Chansarawuth Saeng-arun said Pol Corporal Weerayuth Changkaew initially claimed to not know what was inside the package he was collecting at the request of a friend, a Narathiwat-based ranger who promised him Bt100,000 for running the errand.

The Railway Police didn’t believe him, Chansarawuth said.

They discovered that a man brought the shipment of meth – in a box meant to hold a 40-inch TV set – onto the Bangkok-Yala train at Bangkok’s Bang Sue station. He got off at Thung Song station in Nakhon Si Thammarat but left the box on board.

Chansarawuth said officers on the train noticed the suspicious package, found the drugs inside, and with his men were watching it when the train reached its destination.

He said the investigation would be extended because the case appeared to involve a large drug-trafficking ring with rogue policemen and soldiers in the South among its members.

It is a well known fact that behind any criminal enterprise there is a high ranking official that without the umbrella of protection not many big crimes can take place in this country, so there is no surprise there to read about this or that high ranking cop being caught with his hands in cookie jar...

Many countries a lot more sophisticated than Thailand have tried to stop drug trafficking with law enforcement and failed. Until the world collectively realizes this approach does not work, it will continue.

I don't know what the monthly salary of a police corporal is, but lets say it's around 8,000 baht. So when someone promises him as much as he makes in a whole year for simply picking up a package, I'm pretty sure he knew full well what he was dealing with. And he still has the gall to claim he didn't know what was inside the package.

He was what? A corporal? Of course, he is only the tip of the iceberg...

I am often amazed why the Police monitoring these deliveries do not follow them to the re conclusion and gather the complete gang.

Perhaps they know who the end recipient is ?

Only the South? I suspect a lot of critics on here would suggest the whole country is well endowed with these rogues. You'd also reckon on the big fish supplying them with a list of better excuses just in case they got caught. "Just paid to collect a parcel, officer."  Right.
