Your visa or extension to stay is no longer valid if you left Thailand without a re entry permit. You will have to start all over again.

It is only a re-entry permit to keep your extension valid. It is does not mean you cannot enter the country without it.

Your extension will be longer valid it you enter without a a re-entry permit. You would only get a 30 day visa exempt entry if you qualify for one.

Another question , what happens if you have a re-entry stamp, but Thai officer at the border ignores it ? I will be crossing by land (Poi pet) , and the bus company collect all the passports.

One thing to help it not happening is to put your re-entry permit number in the space for a visa number on the TM6 arrival card.

If it did happen you would have to go to immigration to get the error corrected.

This 30 days exempt can be extended up to 3 months?

A visa exempt entry can only be extended for 30 days.

You could apply for a new 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry and then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement. Requirements for the visa application is here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80

There is not much info a about getting a non-o visa on the consulate or the embassy in Hanoi websites. They may issue a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over. You should contact them about it.

You can only get a 30 day extension, there are no 90 day extensions.

Yes you will apply at your local immigration for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry (it is not a extension).

Then you would apply for an extension (it is not a visa) based upon retirement. Same procedure as you did before.

I understand that. The confusion comes because you apply the correct terms but the average person interested to live in Thailand thinks in a practical terms not in the correct linguistic differentiation. Thank you anyhow for your kind help...

FWIW, my Austrian buddy just got a 1-year, muti-entry 'O' visa at the Thai Consulate in Ho Chi Minh on the grounds of marriage to a Thai.

The thing is that in practical terms it does make a difference and that could be quite a significant difference. Knowing whether you're applying for a visa or an extension is important because it involves filling out a different form and having to fulfil different requirements in each case.

It makes a difference if you say you cannot extend a 30 tourist day visa without explaining immediately that instead you can apply for an 90 day extension at the immigration office in Thailand...the officer at the immigration are used to the confused applicants, usually checks your passport and hands over to you the right format for guidance and application (this happens at least in Pattaya). once again thanks...

You may confuse the Immigration officer as to what your trying to achieve if you ask for a 90 day extension.

You'll be apply for the 90 day Non Imm O Visa, then within the last 30 days of that Visa you can apply for the 1 year extension based on retirement.

The retirement extension is not a Visa, it's a permit.

Basically your extending your permission to stay from the Visa expiry date.

Because it's a permit and not a Visa you need a re-entry permit if you intend to exit/re-enter Thailand.

But I guess you've found that out the hard way.
