The wife of a “top gun” Air Force fighter-jet pilot fell to her death from the ninth floor of a Bangkok hotel’s car park on Saturday morning in what police believe was a suicide.

The Huay Kwang police station was informed of the death at a well-known hotel on Ratchadapisek road in Din Daeng district at 10.30am.

The body of Chanthawan Thamwichai, 46, was found on the ground between the hotel and an adjacent shopping mall.

Chanthawan was the wife of Group Captain Chakkrit Thamwichai, a Royal Air Force “top gun” fighter-jet pilot.

Chanthawan’s Mazda CX-5 SUV was found on the hotel car-park’s ninth-floor. Her shoes, car keys and a suicide letter were found next to the concrete wall of the car park, which she apparently climbed over.

The letter was hand-written and confirmed by her family.

How many of us were lured to the cinema as impressionable teenagers to watch a movie about the air force! macho pilots! jet fighters! stunts! action! Cruise! Kilmer! ..... only to be fed a soft-core advertisement for homosexuality?

Does anyone know what the criteria is to qualify as a 'top gun'

I believe the term Top Gun refers to the American fighter school program, these pilots teach at this school. Something about strike fighter tactics. We had a couple in Saudi who taught the locals fighter tactics, though they were Brits, I assume the same term would apply. so in essence a Thai pilots Thai teacher.

You are saying that all Thais are not any good at anything ?

I don't believe that's what I said, either in actual words or inference.

I'm not aware that the Thai AF has an internal training selection and competition program remotely similar to the U.S. origins of the real Top Gun program.

In Thailand its attaining the position,   not professional performance in the course of duty.

They have many attributes that set them above most.  It must be said that not all Thai males fall into this category, just most

1)  Total irresponsibility for the family

2)  Lack of respect for their wifes as they openly have Mia Nois

3) Irrepressibility to admit when they are wrong

4) inability to control a motor vehicle in a safe manner

need I go on ?

However back to the subject matter, it would be interesting to see the contents of the "suicide note" as it would not surprise me in the least if item 2 above was mentioned so hence severe depression was the issue that drove this lady to her end.   Anyway RIP

RIP, people who commit suicide are typically suffering from mental illness. Imagine what it feels like to look at at the pavement from a few stories up and come to the conclusion that jumping to the concrete below beats living. Pretty unpleasant

Exactly and the majority of the comment related to the bereaved husband and his alleged status in the Thai airforce.

Compassion for a fellow human who was so depressed that ending her life in a terrible way seems to be a secondary consideration, RIP madam, I am sorry you needed to do this.
