Two Saudi tourists injured in ravine fall in Phuket

By The Nation

Two Saudi Arabian tourists were injured when their four-wheel off-road vehicle fell into a ravine after a crash with another vehicle in Phuket Sunday evening.

The Narenthorn Emergency Centre was alerted at 4pm to send an ambulance to take the two tourists to hospital.

Police said the accident happened on a mountain road leading to Doi Nak between Moo 6 and Moo 7 in Tambon Chalong of Muang district.

Police said four Saudi tourists had rented two UTV vehicles to drive off-road on the natural tracks on the mountain. They apparently bumped each other, causing one UTV to fall into a 10-metre-deep ravine on one side of the track.

One of the injured was identified as Alsahli Muteb Hajl, 25. He suffered head injuries and lost consciousness. Doctors at the Chalong Hospital resuscitated him and sent him to the Bangkok Phuket Hospital for treatment. The other tourist suffered minor injuries.

Should be an interesting one for the travel insurance company, if the driver was insured.

Non-registered vehicle, not on a public street, therefore no license needed.

I see some insurance companies cover quad biking.  Less information on the internet about dune buggies, and whether they are classified as an extreme sport, and covered with extra premiums.

Dune Bashing... Great Fun - but that event in Saudi is total Chaos... In the UAE the driving in the desert is undertaken by more mature minds.

That ATV run in Thailand also looks like great fun, I'd like to try it... Its a shame these guys had an accident I hope they recover well. Kudos to the medical team who appear to have saved the young lads life (administering CPR).
