The experience of an elderly Irish man in Pattaya should serve as a warning to tourists to always lock their hotel door at night.

While 70 year old William Joseph was sleeping soundly in his Jomtien hotel room last Friday a thief was prowling the corridors checking all the doors to see you had left theirs open.

The Irish man had done just that and he woke in the morning to find an iPad, Samsung phone and foreign cash totaling almost 100,000 baht value missing.

He went to police who were soon on the case studying CCTV. They got a warrant for the arrest of a man known to them who had checked into one of the other rooms.

Yothin Putthapradit, 36, was arrested in Walking Street.

The electrical items were recovered but he had blown the cash on gambling and Ya Ba.

Pattaya station chief Pol Col Apichai Krobpetch and local tourist police chief Lt-Col Piyapong Ensarn met with the victim and the thief yesterday.

The thief had previous convictions in Bangkok's Choke Chai district in 2009 for motorcycle theft and 2013 for Ya Ba possession and use.

He had been jailed but had not learnt his lesson.

He has been charged with theft and drug use.

Blew 100 k baht in how much time?  Who is the gal?

The article text is a bit misleading, I took it to mean the sum total of the cash and property equaled 100,000 baht, not that it was 100,000 baht in cash.

" an iPad, Samsung phone and foreign cash totaling almost 100,000 baht value missing. "

The old fella had cash and electronics all in the open? Door unlocked he must really trust the very young lady. Good he got most back. Hope they return this thief back to prison for a lengthy sentence

Knowing the Pattaya Police It wouldn't be too surprising to learn that some/much of the cash was indeed recovered........

By the cops............. only not turned in...............

even locked, these rooms are easily accessed by pros

No. The inside lock bar is impossible to breach without breaking the door down.

I have found out that high ranking police officers give their wives, daughters, relatives jobs as mediators in disputes as happened in my case whether they can speak English or not.

I Always throw the chain or bar lock on the door at night in any hotel.......( to stop the young ladies entering the room and ravishing me..)....Sorry, letting my imagination run riot for a second there..:whistling:
