BANGKOK, 21 September 2018 (NNT) – In preparation for Thailand chairing ASEAN in 2019, government agencies today issued reports on their readiness.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson and Director-General of the Department of Information, Busadee Santipitak reported today that a meeting of the National Committee on Preparations to Chair ASEAN led by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has been advised on progress being made by government agencies including in discussions with relevant sectors and public relations, being conducted in Thai and English.

The meeting was told that an advertising campaign has been launched on television, radio, the Internet and in print, promoting Thailand’s agenda for its chairmanship both domestically and internationally. A video series has also been prepared for release when Thailand takes on its chairmanship in Singapore in November.

The Kingdom intends to aim for concrete results from cooperation under the three pillars of connectivity, sustainability and preparedness for the future. The hope is to build an ASEAN community with citizens at the center and in which no country is left behind due to effective tackling of challenges.

Should never happen giving the type of government here and the fact that Myanmar passed over the chairmanship for exactly that reason.

Who would be speaking English?

Prayut will need an interpreter. That's not to say he isn't bilingual: Thai and militantese.

Mumbling incoherently and obfuscation will get him through.

On the other hand he's a pathetic orator and he has an edgy disposition which will be a handicap.

I am still waiting for the affordable Bear Lao since the abolition of tariffs for beverages in 2010.

Now, that's a notion to get behind.

Recalling, when Beer Lao was quite available everywhere - even had a home delivery [bulk] service.

The Thai beer monopolies nipped that in the bud real quick, as they were highly threatened with quality and popularity of the famous Lao elixir.

So much for much heralded regional ideals of free and open markets. Same BS as ever.

In defence, the domestic micro/craft brews are making considerable inroads towards free and unrestricted markets.....maybe.

That might take a while to develop.

My oh my, could you imagine the cataclysmic hissy fit if that were to happen!

Always has had a rough [ignorant] speaking unsophisticated country bumpkin manner in his bad attempts to be cultured and worldly.

Suits his circles nicely.

Didn't the Metropolitan Police (Bangkok) close down the most popular such venue a few months ago, because the floor wasn't strong enough?

Nothing to do with the chief rozzer being on a monthly retainer from the big brewing companies...

Shud suit them down to the ground - Asean is all show and absolutely, no substance. Just like Thailand. ?

Don't be so negative. Some ASEAN countries are going gangbusters. Thailand is not one of them.
