Thailand, Russia agree to expand ties

 

 

BANGKOK, 24th September 2018 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Juntong and the Russian ambassador to Thailand have agreed on an investment expansion and tourism promotion between Thailand and Russia. 

The deputy PM on Monday welcomed Russian Ambassador to Thailand Kirill Barsky on the occasion of his completion of his assignment in Thailand. ACM Prajin thanked the ambassador for playing an important role in fostering the relations between the two countries. He stressed that the Thai government is ready to cooperate with the new Russian ambassador to Thailand. 

The two parties praised the 120-year relationship between Thailand and Russia, particularly in terms of trade and investment. The ambassador said Russian investors are interested in investing in projects in Thailand such as the Eastern Economic Corridor and other large projects of the government. 

This year, 1.4 million Russians traveled to Thailand and more Thais visited Russia. The Russian ambassador said Russia wants to increase the number of flights between the two countries to help promote Thai-Russian tourism further. 

The ambassador stressed that Thailand is an important country in ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region. Thailand and Russia can expand their relations to other fields such as transport, energy, science & technology, aviation and security, he said.
