The investigation into the death of Lei Jiang, 28, at the Tone Nga Chang falls in Hat Yai in Thailand's south is reaching a crucial stage.

A rock that could be a murder weapon as well as possible bloodstains have been found.

While an accident or suicide has not been ruled out the police are strongly convinced the evidence points to murder.

They have a suspect in custody but he is denying murder.

Yesterday Sanook reported that a task force set up by Tourist Police Bureau deputy commander Maj-Gen Surachate Hakpan - known as Big Joke in the Thai media - in conjunction with the local tourist police and Thung Tam Sao cops had gone back to the falls to gather more evidence.

Divers helped locate a rock that may have been a murder weapon and stains that resembled bloodstains were found on leaves and rocks.

The brother of the Chinese tourist is monitoring the situation in Thailand and her mother and father were expected to arrive shortly.

Sanook said that developments were expected within the next two days.

Earlier reports suggested that the suspect worked with the deceased in Kuala Lumpur and traveled to the falls in a car ahead of a taxi carrying the victim.

The taxi driver was told not to wait by the man now in custody.

Were they foreign divers, or if they Thai divers wonder if they had a nap halfway through the dive?

(Reference the cave, and the additional four rescued who apparently had a nap, only to find themselves isolated.)

An investigation into the mysterious death of a Chinese woman at a waterfall in Thailand has had its scope expanded.

The death is now determined a “murder”, with a Chinese man emerging as a prime suspect and Thai police also seeking evidence in China.

Tourist Police Division’s deputy commander Pol Maj-General Surachate Hakparn said yesterday that he was soon going to meet with the Chinese consul general to Thailand to discuss the case.

Tourist Police Division’s deputy commander Pol Maj-General Surachate Hakparn said yesterday that he was soon going to meet with the Chinese consul general to Thailand to discuss the case.

Police also later retrieved her cell phone with the SIM card missing along with pieces of her passport from water near the scene.

A taxi driver told police that the victim asked him to drop her off at the waterfall on September 19.

“When we arrived at the destination, she pointed at a man and told me to stop there. She also said I had no need to wait for her,” the taxi driver was quoted as saying.

Identified as the prime suspect now is Hai Long Zhao, 36. He admitted to visiting the waterfall on September 19 but denied knowing the victim.

Police said Hai checked out of his hotel in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district on September 19 and checked in at another hotel in Songkhla’s town. He was travelling with a friend.

Police traced him and finally found him in Krabi province. He is now being detained for illegally entering Thailand.

Bend over backwards for the Chinese .the English girl got 5 minutes before no rape was called.be careful European's we are worthless to them ..

Bit of a difference with the Koh Tao case.

There the woman only said she was raped but doesn't have any evidence.

Here the woman can't say anything because she's dead. And the body was floating in a waterfall. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that something might have happened.
