BANGKOK, 29th September 2018 (NNT) – The government is diverting water from the Chao Phraya River into 13 paddy fields to ease the risk of flooding, to store water for future consumption, and offer rice farmers an alternative.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Grisada Boonrach has advised residents that 13 rice fields near the Chao Phraya River have been turned into temporary reservoirs to mitigate the effects of flooding in the central region. Owners of the rice fields will be compensated for their sacrifice and will be offered an alternative as the ministry is providing the necessities to farm fish and shrimp in their flooded fields, in order to help them generate income during the off-season.

Minister Grisada presided over the temporary reservoir project on Friday in Phitsanulok’s Phrom Phiram district.

He also took the opportunity to visit an exhibition about career development of the Bang Ra Gam Model project. He was later informed of the progress of the Bangkok for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives’ effort to limit the supply of rice in the market to keep the prices high.

Ever thought of tearing up much of the infrastructure that occupies the greater flood plain.

Perhaps the land might return to it's natural recovery.

The problem is that is real real expensive.. it wont happen. You don't see it in first world countries and you wont see it here.

Once the flood waters recede, those rice fields will be pre-filled with water for the next crop!
