We shall always REMEMBER, they might dress like you, even act like you but their values are NOT. Life is cheap here and there is NO REGARD when their tribal mentality kicks in.

The tribal mentality...

There were definitely a couple of 100 Piper shots mixed in with the standard Leo breakfast ????

7,62mm means .30" calibre which in itself, tells us nothing, but AK47s shoot 7.62x39  ammo which is a distinctive cartridge and yes it is used in some other guns (like the SKS) but nearly all the guns shooting it are Soviet bloc type military firearms.  Most AK type assault rifles are of Chinese, Russian, or another soviet bloc country manufacture.  Some specific models leave distinctive marks on cartridges so they may even have finger printed the cases to an exact model.  If anyone saw the shooting, the AK looks quite a bit different from a SKS etc, so in this instance the reporting could be quite correct.

so in this instance the reporting could be quite correct.

Senit said police have yet to investigate the type of rifles used

So why the conflicting report?

Why, indeed?  Glad you asked. Probably 95% (if not 99%) of the rifles in the world shooting 7.62x39 cartridges these days are AK47 type rifles.  20 years ago you could still have included the Simonov SKS rifle as used in Vienam war but thy are rarely used these days.   "AK 47" has become a generic term for any rifle following the Avtomat Kalashnikova AK47 design of 1947, regardless of which country or arsenal it was made. I could confuse it further by mentioning AK74's and AKM's and the various 5.56 Nato and Russian variants, but lets not go there.  We are talking about empty 7.72 by 39 brass.  A small (very small) percentage of AK47 design rifles even shoot 12ga, .410ga, 7.62x54, even 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester) and a few other cartridges.   But rule of thumb would be "Find a fired 7.62x39 fired case and look first for an AK47 type rifle."

Shocking that snooker hall thugs have automatic rifles to hand. Where are these illegal arms coming from? Sounds like Russia?

Sure the Indian free press will pick up on this. But if the Chinese run with the story, that really is the third strike this year for Chinese tourism.

The SKS was used by by the sniper who holed up in a parking garage in Dallas picking off cops in 2016 before they blew him up with a robotic device. But, yes, it is now obsolete as a military weapon as it offers no advantages over the AK47 or the AK74. The Chinese PLA used to issue it to troops alongside the full auto AK47 in the belief that its longer 20 inch barrel and its semi-auto action provided more accuracy than the 16 inch AK47 for longer range shots to compensate for its smaller capacity.  After the 1979 war vs Vietnam they found its accuracy disappointing and issued everyone with AK47s. The problem is the relatively low velocity ammo which doesn't do well at long range regardless of barrel length. But back on topic we are dealing with gangland soi shootings here and the round it is deadly at close range.

wow. almost up to USA standards. Good job Thailand. But the way, what is a rile?

Apparently just as dangerous as a Rifle - especially in the hands of idiots like this.

Yes it is getting as bad as the US.

7.62 X 39 is the cartridge for the AK family, Russian standard.

7.62 X 51 or the civilian .308 is a NATO cartridge.

Furthermore, an assault rifle is also a rifle.

The difference is that a military "assault" rifle has selective fire, semi automatic and automatic.

The iconic AK-47 and it's clones are very available on the black market.

So it is quite possible, seen the found shells, the rifles were AK-47.

Real forensic gurus can deduct a lot from the spent shells, type of weapon, kind of gunpowder, the age of the cartridge and the maker of the cartridge.

What a know all, blah, blah, blah. Who gives a toss about your knowledge of guns. These poor people were shot dead by a GUN. End of story.

It's a large Indian restaurant catering to Indian Tour Groups.

Tragic case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

It must be a very good indian restaurant i guess..

I remember in Penang we went to some very good Indian restaurants but they had queue's from over 150 people each! Took ages so finally we gave up.

No they were shot by criminals using a gun. No gun jumped up by itself and shot anyone.

More bad news that will scare off tourists, chinese and indians included.  The international media has also well publicized this disastrous incident in downtown Bangkok.

This is where the Thai Police should do it's job...instead of harassing expats and retirees on their visa extensions or other bureaucratic hassles.
The final nail? Maybe you can lend the bib your crystal ball to provide place and time for the next shoot out.

O wow, very cool, one I am not familiar with, although it seems to be based on the old gas seal 7.62 x 38 Nagant...that one was truly a biatch to reload too...you need to do like a reverse crimp...IIRC I used to use modified 30 Carbine dies and Fiocchi brass.....

Thanks for the info!

kids with ak47s? be very concerned! When i read it i see rifle and think oh just a long barell single shot 22 or even 303 and alike. something that takes too long to load, aim etc. but an ak47. Thats seriously troublesome!!

Great job bib for being absolutely useless and assiting in the need for everyone to cary guns..

Thank god these boys had guns to protect themselves. Pity they had not armed the tourists when entering LOS then there could have been a real massacre. More guns more killings, yes bring it on. Soon there can be school mass killings what joy, why should the USA be the best at wasting lives with legal weapons? Thailand could become the hub of gun crime, so sweet. I cannot wait for the day grandma has to wear a bullet proof vest and "Cary" at least 2 guns before going to the 7/11. The thought of everyone carying deadly weapons around me and my 4 year old fills me with excitement. Those pussys coming out of the snooker hall without a gun between them deserved to die - man up and get some AK47s, they could also be used as cues.

I hope the police have some idea which gangs were involved, the perps may already have records, if they do, track them down and get them off the streets.

i am sure the police know exactly which gangs operate in the area and have war weapons. When and if they are arrested they will no doubt turn out to be sons and nephews of police officers, who will use their positions to bail them out free of charge.
