My hunch is that no Chinese eill be rounded up. Anyone with me on that?

It's hilarious, all the blather. Go do it and then let's here about the accomplishment.

Getting rid of foreigners is so easy.

1. Keep laws same for one year

2. Total media blitz, immigration and embassy outreach, etc

A. Anyone rounded up on overstay will go to an immediate immigration hearing. If the individual is actually overstay and it's not some bs matter of no passport on person...

B. A fine of b1500 per day.

C. First week remanded to local jail, allowed to scare up funds

D. Transferred to immigration prison - hard agrocultural labor.

E. Prisoner continues to incur debt of overstay and b500 per day monitoring, maintenance.

F. After three years in prison, the prisoner is eligible for release upon providing a ticket out and paying b5000 for police escort to the airport.

G. Person becomes persona non grata.

H. Any civil or criminal actions will be tried and found guilty, fined. This fine must be paid prior to departure.

J. If they never come up with the money for a ticket HOME they are stuck in labor for life.

Why the drama? When the word gets out overstayers do three years and pay, say 5000usd people will wake up.

Let them rot in a rice paddy eating rice and catfish.

Indonesia does not have overstayers.

I am legal but have been hit as I can no longer use proof of my income to obtain my visa extension.

And when I say proof, I mean originals, not copies of my bank statements, P60 (annual tax statement from government) and one current pension payslip, none of which would be easy to falsify.

Please try thinking before you go on a mindless rant.

18,000 pounds in a Thai bank.  Should you be trusted in Thailand with less than 18,000 pounds?

Many visa category in Thailand just have to have 400k or 800k in bank.

Many countries require a lot more and nearly impossible amount of paperwork.

Mindless rant eh?

400 or 800k baht in a bank is really just a stay in a hospital, or some other such minor disaster.

so the Thai government may consider it as "insurance" which you probably cant afford either.

You're "legal" until the authorities here decide to change the rules, or the way they interpret them, to make you illegal. And then that's what you'll be, illegal, just like the others you seem to despise.

The line between legal and illegal in Thailand is blurry and moving at best. No one should assume that they are exempt from at some point finding themselves on the wrong side of the line through no fault of their own.

NO, the rules have been constant.

Actually i think most the immigration act rules concerning foriegner have not been changed from since the 70s.

The only thing that change is to enforce the rules and crackdown on corruption in immigration and the visa agents who had it good for so long.

funny how you see many foriegners here been whining about corruption nearly daily on this forum..

say Thailand so bad because of corruption.

brown paper bags etc

but when the Thais act against corruption and it make a problem for foriegner they go rabid.

oh how things change!

Same, a huge % of foriegner on Thaivisa was heaping praise to the junta and how good they are when army take over.

i guess, because many years of them having to hating Taksin.

I could have tell you it would end like this, they are trying to clean the house before another government take over.

Those numbers don’t seem right. How can there be 1.6m foreigners and Canadians are the biggest group at 9,872?

Yes your 100 % correct,to make up the 1.6m there would have to be  9,000 odd people staying from ever country in world

At least the Brits are not mentioned for change, find it hard to believe Canadians are top.

Until one day there's an outbreak of some serious disease or other, then we'll all get the blame for being an inferior type of fertiliser: "You shouldn't have used that alien fertiliser Somchai."

Found guilty from beyond the grave.

Prawit therefore really means then: If you're illegal, keep your head down for a month, then it will all be over...

A whole month for a crackdown - that is serious. Usually it's less than two weeks.

Gotta get the right PR leading up to the election you know. After that it is all about the effort versus the envelopes. But beware, the Toad croaks again! And when those lips move the BS hits everyone nearby.
