snoop1130 Posted October 22, 2018 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Student-inventors bring home load of metal from worldwide competition By The Nation Fifteen Thai students in nine teams have won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, along with five special awards at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) 2018 in New Delhi, India, during October 17-21. The students were warmly welcomed by teachers and parents upon their return early on Monday morning at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Children from nine countries – China, India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Russia and Thailand – competed in this event, said Thanyanan Kaeokerd, director for special programmes for the Office of Basic Education Commission's Bureau of Educational Innovation Development. The two gold medal-winning inventions by Thai youths were: moisture absorber capsules made from rice paddy from Prachin Kalyani School in Prachin Buri, and a bio-mucilage compound container from Surat Pittaya School in Surat Thani. The three silver medal-winning innovations were: a rambutan peeler from Thairath Wittaya 19 School in Chaiyaphum, a sachet with special properties to absorb ethylene and suppress fungus growth from Chulabhorn Wittayalai Phitsanulok School in Phitsanulok, and a medical detector sheet applicator for emergency patients from Samsen Wittayalai School in Bangkok. The two bronze medal-winning devices were: a pressurised canned milk pourer from Khlong Dan Wittaya School in Songkhla, and a loop-root mangrove nursery from Surat Pittaya School. Thai youth teams also won five special awards in the competition for: Thairath Wittaya 19 School's rambutan peeler, the Samsen Wittayalai School's medical detector sheet applicator, the Surat Pittaya School’s loop-root mangrove nursery, an intelligent health check-up device using cellular network from Suksanari School in Bangkok, and the “Open Up” device from Princess Chulabhorn's College Mukdahan in Mukdahan. IEYI 2018 was organised by the Foundation for Global Science Initiatives (FGSI) during October 17-21 to showcase and reward remarkable inventions from students age 6 to 19 years old from around the world.
