BANGKOK, 27th October 2018 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is pleased with the Global Competitiveness Index 4.0, stating that Thailand’s world competitiveness ranking has improved.

According to the 2018 edition of the Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum, Thailand is the 38th most competitive nation in the world out of 140 countries.

Thailand’s world competitiveness ranking rose two places, from 40th, with a score of 66.3 out of 100 in 2017, to 38th with a score of 67.5 in 2018. Among ASEAN countries, Thailand came third, after Singapore and Malaysia. It ranked sixth among ASEAN+3 countries, following Singapore, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and China.

The Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 sheds light on an emerging set of drivers of productivity and long-term growth in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It provides a much-needed compass for policy-makers and other stakeholders, to help them shape economic strategies and monitor progress.

The report is made up of 98 variables, from a combination of data from international organizations, as well as from the World Economic Forum’s Executive Opinion Survey.

Gen Prayut has instructed all relevant agencies to improve various rules and regulations for ease of doing business, as well as emphasizing education and skills development in order to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness.
