Train kills man using shortcut at Makkasan station

By The Nation

A 42-year-old man was hit and killed by a passenger train after he went through a fence hole as a shortcut at the Makkasan railway station to get to the Airport Rail Link station on Saturday morning, police said.

Police were alerted to the accident at 6.30am.

Police said Thossapol Yuenying, a resident of Yannawa district, was killed by the Bangkok-Aranyaprathet train.

Witnesses told police that Thossapol was seen coming into the station compound through a hole of the station's fence, which is used as a shortcut to get to the Airport Rail Link elevated train station above. But when he came through the fence, the Bangkok-Aranyaprathet train arrived and hit him.

people that do not understand fences, or law and order, have shorter life expectancy; makes perfect sense

Reads as if the hole was common knowledge as a shortcut.

Likely that station personnel knew about it and tolerated it?

Anymore perfect smart asses out there waiting to comment ? Isn’t there always a well worn dirt track short cut close to any facility where it’s possible to make a short cut ? It’s what humans do, being so clever. In a country where you take your life in your hands trying to cross a city street for lack of traffic signals that are adhered to it’s not unreasonable to suggest that this railway shortcut is no big deal. Unfortunately the guy made a mistake for whatever reason, unlike some posters of this forum  would , being so perfect. Rest in Peace poor man.

We have the same thing here at Nakhon Pathom main railway station, a main road runs along the edge of the tracks, fencing erected for protection has been broken through to save people time walking to the railway crossing point only 50 meters down the road... pure laziness!
