BANGKOK, 7th November 2018 (NNT) – The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army has instructed all security units to step up the present clampdown on illicit drugs.

Spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Maj. Gen. Thanathip Sawangsaeng said today that Army commander Gen. Apirat Kongsompong, who is the deputy director of ISOC, stressed at a recent meeting that all unit chiefs need to make sure all operations are in line with the directives of the Prime Minister and geared toward substantial success, particularly in the restoration of safety and the development of the quality of life of the people while effectively tackling narcotics problems.

Gen. Apirat also declared ISOC would be the key mechanism in intercepting and cracking down on the illicit drug trade along the border.

The ISOC spokesman added that the Army commander has specifically instructed all units to integrate their efforts during the months of November this year and January next year.

Gen. Apirat then chaired a meeting of the Secretariat of the National Council for Peace and Order, in which the discussion focused on voluntary initiatives introduced in accordance with the royal policy of HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The NCPO meeting also talked about the fight against narcotics and armaments of war in border areas as well as the integration of all units to prepare for the general election while ensuring peace and order in the country.

The government just rely on the fact most Thais take no notice, and when they do, don't remember that they've been to the same things for years, let alone decades.

Not as anally retentive for facts and data as us farangs. There again, we can't vote, so it doesn't matter to the Thai government we think more critically.

Correct, as long as we have the money to satisfy their insatiable greed, that's what matters to them! Praise Buddha!

Because... the war on drugs has been such a global success.  Wherever its been implemented drug use and crime is out of control.  I wonder why?  Could it be the lack of treatment options, the high priced incentives created by restricting a substance that generate illicit trade, the prosecution of regular users and incarceration with hardened criminals, the impurities found in street drugs?  Thanks America!
