I went to Pattaya DLT to renew a 5 year drivers license yesterday, arrived at 8am and got ticket #44 by 9am the queue number was up to #39 and that was it, the computer system shut down so lady said "you can wait but maybe not start again today".

Went to DLT again today, arrived at 7:45am and got ticket #24 and waited 45 minutes before my number was up and went upstairs, check documents, only 2 year license for you (so I'm going from 5 year license to 2 year license) on Tourist Visa, got #47 red ticket. Alai Gadai, whatever. Into the video room, sign the attendance book and wait. Red tickets in the 30's outside to the eye test and other test room, next other tickets. First the colour blindness test, red, yellow, green done. English guy doing the depth perception test told to "push buttons", he was, the machine had sh*t itself so the official tried the brake test machine instead, that was accelerating but "brake not work". Back into the video room to watch the video which was kind of childish but whatever. They then hand back your passport with documents and tell you to got to Counter 15 and pay cashier and of course the room is packed. I get to the cashier, she takes my Bt205 and gives me a blue ticket #2 and said come back 1pm for picture, it's now 11:20am. <deleted>? Back at 12:50pm, 1pm they start calling numbers, take your picture and tell you to wait 5 minutes. Finally got my drivers license after 5 hours and 10 minutes. Renewing a license in Australia takes no more than 15 minutes. So if you plan on going to renew a license be prepared for a painful, excruciating day and make sure you fill the fridge with Chang or Leo before you leave home. Truly a third world country experience.

Questions to the OP:

Are you currently here with a tourist visa (60 days) or visa exempt (30 days)?

What did you use as proof of residence?

I know cities in the "first world" where you have to wait for weeks just to get an appointment at the motor vehicle office.

But of course they have a first world online appointment system
