Even if the man is retired, he can get a work permit, if he's staying on a marriage visa. No problem there, in my humble opinion. 6000 Baht a day is not bad!

You cannot get a WP to wash cars, any manual labour job is a Thai only job. Surely you have read all the posts over the years where guys have been fined etc for less than washing cars.

Possibly but unlikely he could be a self funded retiree in which case he isn’t budging off anyone.

Also I understand that even in Australia even if receiving the Government pension you can still earn a certain amount of income before it affects your pension.

Well, for what it's worth, here's what I think. I would be very surprised indeed if he had allowed himself to be filmed by a news team, knowing that it would be broadcast, if he wasn't 100% sure that he was acting legally.

Im not jealous of the guy but I feel he is about to be shit on from a great height. First and foremost he is working doing a Thai only occupation (any unskilled labour). There are stories every couple of months about guys getting fined by immigration/labor office. Secondly if this story makes its way back to Australia, he will get in trouble for not declaring his income as a pensioner, or if the income is high enough maybe even loose his pension.

Now that its public knowledge the Thai Autorities will act, if they dont it opens the door to foriegners doing all sorts of work. If the guy can wash cars, then I can drive a taxi.

I would suggest that he goes back to playing golf for the next few weeks, This photo op will cost him dearly, A gentleman who was making pizzas a couple of days a week has just cost him 30k and court. When they come and they will. tell them the reporter asked him to pose for his wife's business and that he doesn't do any work.

Good for him!  I do think the numbers are construed as noted most likely 6000 baht a day Gross really when they say him really means his Thai family.

Go for it,  all this regulation stuff people to scare of their own shadows taking a job from a Thai, if it wasn't for him there wouldn't be jobs for the current people working there. Don't forget the electricity the water he has to pay he makes a contribution end of story good for him.

People who contribute much more are not entitled . Like successful business people or had good jobs and saved / invested well. Means tested.

Is it really overcharging if people are prepared to pay it?

Misleading headline. The shop takes in 5 - 6k a day. There is no mention whether or not he gets paid.
