Do you have to contribute for a certain number of years to recieve Government pension in Australia?

No, Age based & Means tested by Assets /Income. You have to apply & depending on either assets or income have most, reduces amount of pension + have to (physically) report every 90 days & only paid to an AUS Bank!!

Certainly nothing like UK or US pensions!! ..

You could have also worked and contributed to a superannuation fund and be ineligible for a government pension.

I did and I still get a part aged pension.

"...with his wife Srinuan Sukcharoen who is twenty seven years his junior."

Why was that included in the report, it has no importance or bearing on the story whatever?

Edited by scorecard

If either Thai Immi or AUS Gov't get wind of his situ, could be in strife both here(Thailand) and/or AUS (undeclared income whilst on pension) ..... Crazy, publicity not what he needs!!

And a pensioner also. So he is bludging of the Aussie taxpayer while living it up in Paradise and earning cash with his hand out for taxpayers money.

Welfare cheat. I hate them.

If he is a 70 year old pensioner he more than likely paid into the system during his working life. He will be fully entitled to a pension. Why would you call him a bludger?????

You dont know much about the Australian government then. Any eligible pensioner who is absent from Australia more than 6 weeks has the pension stopped.

Wow, is that for real. I thought the Brit government was bad enough in freezing any increases in pension if you lived abroad. ( unless of course you are a retired member of parliament..)

Think he would have been wise to keep out the lime light no matter what his situation is. Unless he is looking for confrontation with authority.

How the <deleted> do you reckon he is a welfare cheat ?  He paid his taxes and has a right to get an Aussie pension. I don;t think he is "Living it up " as you say. You are a clueless knob.  I am getting a British pension here in Australia and I do a lot of buying and selling and make good profit. So do you think I am a bludger too ?  I paid my taxes and have every right to a pension. Obviously the Government agree or they would't be giving it to me, would they.  Nobody can afford to live on a pension !  Are you going to give yours back to the state then ? Bet you don't

Good man

First post in..........

Congrats.

I fail to see the relevance.

I was under the impression you got a pension at a certain age in most countries and you could do what you want in retirement.

Including playing golf or supplementing your income by washing some cars.

Up to you as they say.

Unless you are misinterpreting his situation and think he is on the dole and hence an unemployed welfare cheat?

Jeez. Some people.

He may well be declaring his earnings to Centerlink, and his pension might be adjusted accordingly. Not a good idea to assume otherwise

Nah, you can be on the dole your entire life, and then they give you a pension (money from the people who actually go to work and pay taxes).

yep,

In Australia there are many 3 generations, families, all collecting the dole.

These people go from being on the Dole straight to the old age pension.

Quality Aussies, never worked a day in their life.

He's wrong. I know many age pensioners here who get full or part pensions, and centrelink know all about it. They don't receive extras like help with power bills or car rego etc.

He seems to be getting confused with disability pension.

Wrong word used.

A lot of the comments here are from people who are clearly not Australian citizens. Those who are better appreciate the implications behind what he is doing. Maybe he is 100% legal but doubtful. Not just the local boys in brown he may need to worry about but also Centrelink back in Australia if indeed he is receiving a pension. I don't have any great issues with a seventy year old gentleman getting physical and making some spending money rather than vegetating in a recliner boozing and watching tv all day as many end up doing... but some authorities likely will...

Why have so many posters got a bee in their bonnets about a hypothetical situation and something that is none of their concern whatsoever?

Because they are angry that someone is enjoying their life.

It is a big problem in Australia

Reckon he should have kept a low profile.

Two more car wash shops will open next week one on each side.

6,000 now 2,000. + Tax from bent cops or immigration, he should clear about 300 baht a day.

Don't see what's the problem. :giggle:

But good luck to you mate. :jap:

If  he has a retirement visa, which is probably the case, he cannot get a work visa

Rubbish! I've been here nearly 9 years and still get my pension every month.

Support this gentleman’s business if you live nearby take your car for a wash there, I would have done that if I lived nearby.

maybe some of those thaivisa work permit detectives will spy on him near his shop and try to find out if he got a work permit or not ????????????
