A drug suspect jumped into a canal in Phatthalung province to try to escape arrest but had to be rescued by police on Tuesday morning.

The suspect, Somporn Kongdam, 40, tired and could not complete his swim across the canal in Pak Phayoon district.

He managed to stay afloat until police could extend a long stick for him to grab and be pulled back ashore and arrested.

Acting on tip-offs that the suspect has been pushing drugs in the neighbourhood, police went to check on Somporn’s house in Tambon Falamee.

Seeing the officers, Somporn ran out of the back door and jumped into the river.

Police found 17 meth pills and 20.49 grams of crystal meth in his house.
