Hi all,

My name is Peta, I have two small girls aged 10 weeks and 15 months. My Husband and I along with the girls, are moving from Australia to Phuket at the end of April for approx 2 years. I was wondering if anyone can help me on where to find a suitable, English speaking HouseKeeper/Cook/Nanny. My main need will be the housework and cooking as I will be there to mind the children. My Husband works away, so it is mainly to give me a helping hand.

Can anyone give me some contacts ie: websites on where to find such a suitable person. Along with any information that they think I should need on moving to Phuket. Our smallest baby will be due for her 6 month vaccinations whilst there, is the International Hospital our best option?

I appreciate any insite that people can give....... Thank you

Regards Peta

Check out the BAMBI website, they have a page of people looking for jobs. I would say check the references very carefully. Don't rely on the papers they give you, try to phone or email the last employers.

I can't really help on finding one but one tip I do have when you do find a maid/nanny is - if she has children, meet them and see what their manners are like. We found ours on the recommendation of one of our thai staff that we had known for over 3 years (nice thai girl) and we struck gold with our maid/nanny who worked as a motorbike taxi rider with her husband. Her 2 children (9 and 16 years old) would have to be the most polite and well brought up thai kids, not to mention top of their class in their schools. They are Pattaya locals, and considering the outside influences that some of these kids are faced with here, to bring up such well mannered children says everything about their parents and everything about the person who you are employing to help care with your own children.

Good luck, and hope you are just as lucky in finding someone who will be a positive influence on your family just as ours has.

Phillipino Woman would be a safe bet - their English is generally better and they are generally more conscientious than your average Thai Nanny JMO

I'd second that.
