LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Attorney Michael Avenatti, who represents adult film star Stormy Daniels in her legal battles with U.S. President Donald Trump, was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence, a police spokesman said.

No further details were immediately available, but police spokesman Jeff Lee said Avenatti was in the process of being formally booked.

No one was available for comment at Avenatti's law office in Newport Beach, south of Los Angeles.

Avenatti came to national prominence as the lawyer for Daniels, a porn actress whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, who sued Trump for defamation after he denied her assertion that she had a sexual encounter with him in 2006.

That lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge last month. Daniels has filed a separate lawsuit over a $130,000 (£100,068) hush-money agreement stemming from the alleged encounter.

Avenatti's clients have included Julie Swetnick, who accused Brett Kavanaugh of aggressive sexual behaviour before his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

You may remember it was the Democrats who threw Franken on the #METOO, no due process scrap heap.

Anyway, here's a bit more news:

TMZ is a mouthpiece for Trump.   Interesting that they have the inside track on this.

As much as I want to giggle, I will stifle it and would point out that he is entitled to the presumption of innocence which he so happily denied that others in the same boat are entitled to.

Just the allegation of  a domestic attack on a women has  what appears, dashed his  hopes of running as a dem candidate for POTUS!

I wouldn't jump to conclusions.  This smells like a set up ala Gary Hart.

Avenatti is a very smart lawyer.  Doubtful he would strike or assault a woman.  He's claiming she assaulted him first, and his ex-wife says domestic violence is completely out of character.

Whilst many on the Left tell us we have to "believe women" regardless of evidence, I agree with you (in part) and will not condemn him without evidence.

PS, if he was "very smart", we wouldnt be getting his ass handed to him by various Courts over his business dealings. Unless one considers "smart" the ability to temporarily beat ones creditors...ala Donald Trump. He must be smart too, maybe even smarter ????

Can you provide a link to your assertions?

Well it has been mostly Democrats with the signs and bullhorns has it not? They do not have a better moral compass, quite the opposite really, but I give them credit, they sure are loud and the bullying is effective.

Look at all the posters on here who were eager to condemn Kavanaugh but I am happy to wait for evidence on Avenatti before stringing him up.

Statistically, some demographic groups are much more likely to deny that sexism is a significant problem, and this sentiment is most strongly embraced by younger men (18-29 years old), right-wing conservatives, and those heavily trusting in, and reliant on right-wing media outlets, including Fox News, Breitbart, Rush Limbaugh, Drudge Report, and InfoWars.

ah... I see your point, so I had a quick look at the why of it.... this article has a few insights and explainations.

Thanks, . the rest of your statement raises off topic matters

Me too. Ive done those too. Isnt it true that an equally plausible alternative to you statement is fraud? Ever see that in a dissolution? How about his coffee shop gig with the actor? Based on what you know and have read, if you were represnting the plaintiff against him, wouldnt you allege fraud?

Seems like a simple he said she said. By the way, arent those allegations against the President you just set forth felonies? Got some support for those allegations.

You tire me Russian bot.

So... hardly handed his ass by various courts, but rather, one court... a bankruptcy court, whereby he supports the judges determination, and is not hiding behind a chapter eleven “get out of jail free card”, but is rather working with his creditors to repay debts, unlike a certain president who springs to mind
