This image from a scene in “Thi Baan The Series 2.2” shows monk Phra Siang crying during his former girlfriend’s funeral.

BANGKOK — A monk despairing at his ex-girlfriend’s funeral is the alleged scene that caused a Thai film to be censored just days before its Thursday release.

Speaking Wednesday at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre, a group of Thai directors revealed that the what censors called a “sensitive” scene in “Thi Baan The Series 2.2” depicted a monk character bursting into tears in front of his ex-girlfriend’s coffin.

They are so entertaining here. ????

Thai monks are generally like Thai people.

They are very flexible in following rules.

That’s right. They drink, smoke, and watch naughty movies on their iPhones.

.....and collect cash income unethically.

A lot of monks look like chubby, big babies, with fat pinchable cheeks, I'm sure lots of them have a good cry after lights out, before they drift away to sleepy bye byes.

Don't forget holding a glass of Spirits or wine, smoking a cigarette, or as the knife/gun gets too close to a body - all blurred out.

And the slap/bang/crash/wollop violence on tv early evening with all the kids watching thinking "this is all normal then".........

Is Mary Whitehouse on the panel!!

Consider this. Portraying the police, the military or civil servants in a bad light, i.e. corrupt or worse, outright evil, is illegal in Thailand and such a movie or tv programme would not get made, let alone released or broadcast.

Yet dealing with the corruption of these government employees is a daily occurrence for Thais.

It is all about maintaining a highly inaccurate, romanticised picture of things, the goal being the protection of the power structure.

Mere men (and Thai ones at that ) dressed in orange frocks.

Nothing special about them!

As for crying maybe he missed his mummy! its lonely in those temple places

After 10 years here I am so sick of Thailand, frigging soap opera after soap opera here.

Not so much after lights out, from what one ex-monk told me!

But the soaps are how they react in real life

to situations,  so its the norm. :giggle:

With such a dysfunctional education system, sadly, this is where most Thai kids get their life's lessons from.

Sure, this is how far too many Thai's react to life, a result of the soapies - chicken and egg = soapies and Thainess.

You don't actually watch them, do you?

took me one day to come to that conclusion ...

Disgraceful and silly censorship

When my gf is watching a soap (and luckily she doesn't do it a lot) and I am in the next room, it sometimes sounds like she is watching some "Hostel"- like torture- porn!

But ...oh yes...please blur a bottle of booze or a cigarette!

Thailand's morals and ethics are completely down the drain!

A monk, crying about a woman he once loved...how dare he!

Have a nice flight out then.

They see themselves as the guardians of Thai culture, but in reality they're just muppets, self appointed to do what doesn't really matter anyway.

What's a monk doing with a former girlfriend anyway?

I'll try not to let the door hit me in the a$$ on the way out.. haha

I wish they would just entirely censor Thai TV soaps!

I always wondered how bored, disturbed, and high on their own moral standards  people must be to volunteer for a job in a censorship committee.
