Information from "a staff member from US Embassy" is not more reliable than information given by random Immigration Officers in various offices...

The fact she speak about "income verification letter not accepted anymore" proves she knows nothing...

Personally at this point I would not bet on any changes.

Letter out, income in bank in!

If you're going to quote something, do it right so that people who didn't see the original can understand the context.

"...what will happen after the income verification letter is not accepted anymore".

What does it change to quote it longer ?

It's still BS, as T.I. never said that income letters will not be accepted in the future.

Although on the BS scale I don't think that some vague reference to a possible Immigration Bureau announcement ranks as highly as the British Embassy's specific (and totally nonsensical, as things stand) assertion that monthly income sighted in a Thai bank account will be acceptable in the post-income letter/affidavit era!
