True. Sorry not a joke.

In Malaysia on a construction job the townsite would interrupt the power supply after lunch so that all the AC in the housing would drop out and not operate in the afternoon. 

The Germans and the Austrians briefly wondered why all the Canadian AC's were still running when they arrived home after work.  

Because similar to the above picture the Canadians, most of whom were involved in commissioning, had either jammed a tooth pick in beside the green start button to keep the contact made or opened up the start/stop box and shunted or bypassed the Start button completely.
