snoop1130 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Man punished for blocking path of ambulance carrying patient By Preewadi Khunnaklad The Nation A 72-year-old man, who was caught on camera as the person behind the wheel of a sedan that blocked an ambulance’s path on Sukhumvit Road in Chon Buri’s Muang district, was fined Bt500 as he acknowledged the charge of driving in a manner of barring traffic, said Muang Chon Buri superintendent Pol Colonel Atinan Nuchanart on Thursday. Prawit Boonthaneepakorn, who was accompanied by his daughter and car owner, met the police superintendent to explain himself. The elderly man claimed he was astonished by the siren and froze. As he paid the fine, the man said he apologised to the ill person in the ambulance and hoped the patient recovered quickly. The incident, which was resolved by the ambulance having to push into another lane, was caught on camera and the clip went viral on Thai social media, attracting widespread criticism. Popular Post Mango Bob Posted December 6, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 6, 2018 Thailand is full of idiots who will not do anything to help others if it gets into their way. How many times does this have to happen? The find should be 10,000 baht then you see them get their ass out of the way. 21 6
Popular Post mok199 Posted December 6, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 6, 2018 Apparently the only time the ambulance gets any help is when a grandstanding showboating motorcycle taxi leads the way , Opportunity is the only incentive... 3 2

Popular Post ratcatcher Posted December 6, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 6, 2018 I am older than this fossil and certainly know the rules re emergency vehicles. If he freezes at the sound of a siren I suggest he should not be behind the wheel of an automobile any time in the future.. 26 5 1
Popular Post Henrik Andersen Posted December 6, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 6, 2018 Again and again Thailand just shows how stupid and incorrect the justice system works 500 b is a insult to the people in the ambulance And that shamefully just shows Thai people don't need to care about rules and regulations or for that matter other people Once I was proud to love Thailand .. .....but but but....... 5 1 5

If this elderly man freezes from the sound of a siren than he is clearly not fit to drive a car. What happens when someone beeps, when a truck makes loud noises while breaking, or when a pickup truck with loud music drives by? Take away his drivers license, as he has just admitted he is unable to cope with everyday traffic situations. 16 1

Personally believe the man was just being ignorant and a 500 baht fine is paltry. 4 1

Taking away his license would not help much since we know that most Thais drive without a license. Raise the fines because the only time they will learn anything is when you take their money. 9 2

Maybe he thought they were the Sirens luring him to his death so stayed put where he was and just kept on going??? 1

bajajvivek Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 If I remember correctly, the earlier report said that the driver refused to move even when the patient's attending family member requested the driver to let the ambulance pass. 1

Plus 5000 Baht fines for vehicles (including ambulances) using light and sirens when it is not an emergency. Too many just use lights and sirens to pass traffic when going home or to lunch. 1 1
Burma Bill Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 At 72 there is the possibility he may need transportation in an ambulance and I bet he will be the first to complain if he is late for his treatment! 2

Are you serious? The police who set those fine amounts are just as guilty as the man who violated the "so-called" law. Absurd. Does the photo of the Thai man look like he even gives a s..t? We see it in the drop of Chinese tourists after the fiasco of the tourist boat deaths. Not sure about others here, but I like to minimize the danger when I can.

vinegarbase Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Just employ a set of axe aunties on every ambulance. If you don't get out of the way they come out and smash your vehicle with axes until you move.
