When the International Departure Tax was increased from 1st Feruary 2007 from 500 baht to 700 baht for final departures from any Thai airport (ie not just a transfer from a provincial airport to Bangkok or other airport), some airlines said that they would include the tax in ticket prices from that date (Thai, Nok Air for instance). Others were silent so kiosks still remain to pay it at point of departure if it is not included in the ticket. The ticket should clearly show what taxes are included.

Thanks Arandora, I know international departure tax in bangkok has increased from 500 baht to 700 bath. What I want know is whether air ticket purchase from February onward included international departure tax for chinag mai or phuket airports.

Cheer.

This answer is INcomplete: it depends WHEN you paid/were ticketed (even if its e-ticket): all tickets issued as per 1/11/06 and later MUST have the THAI tax included. The only reason (and though the booths are there theyre not yet taken away/yet and unstaffed) is that older tickets still circulate (as one may book 364 days before) and IF its not included, youll need to pay at/when checking in and those staff are supposed to check it! Besides; NOK only flies domestic, that tax was doubled from previous 50 to 100 THB and was for some years ALWAYS included at booking!

I was unsure myself (complicated ticket with several stops and issued around that time with other problems then), went to THAI (I am ROP member), but it took the kindl ady some 6 mins. to find it on her computer.

Asanee - thanks for completing answer, albeit some airlines (Thai for one) continued to issue paper tickets and e-tickets after 1/11/06 without the IDT included.

Thaising - As I said in my original answer the tax is " for final departures from any Thai airport (ie not just a transfer from a provincial airport to Bangkok or other airport". So if you are leaving Chiang Mai or Phuket on an international departure, for example Malaysia Airlines from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur IDT is payable but SHOULD be included in the price, depending when you bought your ticket.

Seems there's a whole lot of confusing about whether the tax was included or not. The first thing is ignore any comments that say after a certain date the tax is included. That's because the date when the tax was included is different for each of the airlines. There was not an AoT mandate for airlines to start including the tax by a certain date. It is each airline that decided when to start this. And some travel agents could have potentially issued tickets after this date and forgot to include the tax. That shouldn't have happened, but it is possible. So unless you see a specific date together with a specific airline, ignore any dates you see. I think Air Asia was one of the first to start including the tax, with Thai Airways being a bit later. In some cases you may also be asked to pay the tax at the airport even though it was included in your ticket. This happened to me and I told the check-in agent that it was already paid. She checked again and said I was right, so I didn't have to pay. On my following trip out of BKK they properly saw that the tax had already been paid and made no comment about it. Anyways, the tax, and when it was collected, is an airline issue, not an airport issue. Whether it's BKK, CNX, HKT, or whatever, it's up to the airline to collect the tax, and the amount of the tax is the same regardless of which airport.
